Middle cerebral artery fenestration with a contralateral early branching investigated through magnetic resonance angiography: an embryological view on an incidental finding.

PURPOSE: Middle cerebral artery (MCA) anomalies are a small group of congenital variants, including fenestration, duplication and Twig-like MCA. Some other variants, i.e. in the branching pattern, have been described independently from the previous ones, but their association might raise an embryological reasoning. METHODS: We are presenting an incidental finding in a patient undergoing brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Angiography (MRA) for episodic headache, i.e. right MCA fenestration and left MCA very early branching. The patient was investigated only by MRA, being the finding in

The ejaculatory duct ectopically invading the bladder with multiple congenital malformations of the homolateral urogenital system: a report of a rare case and an embryological review.

We report a rare case of a left ejaculatory duct that allotropically protrudes towards or invades the left vesicle triangular area with its dead end. The patient simultaneously exhibited multiple congenital malformations of the homolateral urogenital system, such as absence of the left kidney, dysplasia and allotopia of the left seminal vesicle, absence of the left ureterostoma, separation between the left testis and the epididymis tail, and maldevelopment of the left testis. According to all clinical and laboratory evidence, the case represented a new syndrome, which we named Wuyang's syndrom

Identifying a therapeutic window of opportunity for people living with primary sclerosing cholangitis: Embryology and the overlap of inflammatory bowel disease with immune-mediated liver injury.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a variably progressive, fibrosis-causing autoimmune disorder of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts of unclear etiology. PSC is commonly (in 60%-90% of cases) associated with an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) like PSC-IBD and less commonly with an autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) like PSC-AIH or AIH-overlap disorder. Hepatologists and Gastroenterologists often consider these combined conditions as distinctly different from the classical forms in isolation. Here, we review recent epidemiologic observations and highlight that PSC-IBD and PSC-AIH overl

Multiple congenital dermal sinus tracts: a case-based review involving a unique triple-tract configuration that challenges current embryological concepts.

PURPOSE: Congenital dermal sinus tract (DST), a rare spinal dysraphism, typically presents as a solitary midline lesion. Lateral and multiple DSTs are extremely rare, and their embryological basis remains unclear. Here, we report a case of triple DSTs and review the literature on lateral and multiple DSTs to better characterize their clinical and anatomical features. METHODS: A unique case of a 1-month-old infant with triple DSTs (left and right laterals and a midline) at the sacrococcygeal level with intradural convergence, complicated by meningitis and an associated dermoid cyst, is reporte

Association of paternal age with embryological outcomes and β-hCG positivity in women with polycystic ovary syndrome undergoing ICSI: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The independent effect of paternal age on assisted reproductive technology outcomes remains uncertain, particularly when maternal characteristics and conventional semen parameters are considered. This study investigated the association between paternal age and embryological outcomes and β-hCG positivity in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). METHODS: This single-center retrospective cohort study included 192 ICSI cycles in women with PCOS aged ≤35 years. Male partners were categorized as <35 years (n = 129), 35-39 years (

Topographic and Anatomical Landmarks of Key Points in Embryologically Guided Surgery for Locally Advanced Gastric Cancer Using Computer-Assisted 3D Navigation.

Background/Objectives: Gastric cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality, with over 50% of cases diagnosed at a locally advanced or metastatic stage. High-quality surgical resection within the embryological mesogastric layer is critical for achieving optimal oncological outcomes but is often complicated by anatomical distortion in advanced tumors. This study aimed to develop and validate a system of topographic and anatomical navigation landmarks for embryologically guided laparoscopic gastrectomy, leveraging 3D modeling to enhance precision and safety. Methods: A single-cente

Impact of ovarian reserve markers on oocyte maturity and embryological outcomes in in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles: A retrospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: Despite advances in assisted reproductive technologies, predicting outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) remains difficult. Hormonal status, oocyte maturity, and ovarian reserve contribute to treatment variability. This study examined correlations among demographic, endocrine, and embryological parameters in women undergoing IVF and ICSI whose partners had normal semen profiles, and evaluated the effect of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels on outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 488 women aged 18 to 45 y

Fenestrated Anterior Cerebral Artery, Anterior Communicating Artery, with Accessory Middle Cerebral Artery-A Conglomeration of Embryologically Different Entities in a Single Individual.

Cerebral arterial fenestrations are anatomic variants of undetermined significance where there is a division of a single vessel into at least 2 channels, each having endothelial and muscular layers, that coalesce to a single lumen in the distal course of the vessel. The basilar artery is the most common site, followed by the anterior communicating artery. The accessory middle cerebral artery is defined as the anomalous origin of the vessel from the anterior cerebral artery and its further course along the sylvian fissure parallel to the middle cerebral artery. The embryologic basis of all thes
