The cutaneous manifestations of Crohn's disease are myriad. A 15-year-old girl presented with recurrent lip swelling and eventual development of diarrhea and targetoid macules on the palms, feet, and back. She was finally diagnosed with Crohn's disease in the setting of a clinical presentation and histopathology consistent with orofacial granulomatosis and erythema multiforme. We review the literature and summarize reported occurrences of these cutaneous diseases in children with Crohn's disease.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the insulin resistance and serum resistin levels in women with idiopathic hirsutism compared to controls and women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Three groups of women including 23 women with idiopathic hirsutism, 28 women with PCOS and 28 non-hirsute women serving as controls were included into the study. Erythema multiforme (EM) is an immune-mediated disease categorized into EM minor and EM major, also called Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), not to be confused with toxic epidermal necrosis (TEN), as physiopathological pathways are throughly different. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is an intracellular germ, generally responsible for atypical respiratory infections. It may be associated with erythema multiforme, eventually recurrent, illustrated by the present case report.

Anti-desmoplakin (DP) I and II are detected in patients with paraneoplastic pemphigus. However, these autoantibodies have also been detected … indicating the presence of autoantibodies to DP I and II. Based on these results, the diagnosis of erythema multiforme was made. An immunofluorescence and immunoblotting are crucial for the differential diagnosis between an erythema multiforme which is positive for anti-DP I and II antibodies and other autoimmune bullous diseases.

A 5-year-old female border collie presented with erythematous skin lesions at the axillae, groin, mucocutaneous junctions, and pinnae. Biopsy revealed lymphocytic interface dermatitis with hydropic degeneration of basal cells and keratinocyte apoptosis. Erythema multiforme major was diagnosed in a dog with necrotizing parvoviral enteritis. Skin lesions consisted of ulceration of the footpads, pressure points, mouth, and vaginal mucosa; vesicles in the oral cavity; and erythematous patches on the abdomen and perivulvar skin. A case of a five-year-old Japanese boy with herpes-associated erythema multiforme (HAEM) was reported. The patient had eleven recurrences of herpes labiaris within one year; four of these recurrences were accompanied by erythema multiforme. A study of the human leukocyte antigens revealed the presence of HLA-DQW3, which has been reported to be significantly frequent in Caucasian patients with HAEM. Oral administration of acyclovir at the onset of herpes labialis was effective in preventing HAEM. Early administration of oral steroids at the onset of HAEM also prevented its exacerbation.
