PURPOSE: To compare the use of sizing implants versus intraoperative volume measurements for individualization of enucleation implant size, and to identify preoperative factors affecting the choice of implant.
METHODS: In this retrospective observational cohort study, 2 implant sizing methods were compared using clinical records and photographs in 139 patients who underwent enucleation between 2007 and 2016.

Melanomas account for over 70% of adult malignancies in the eye and occur primarily in the choroid. Orbital cellulitis with endophthalmitis is an extremely uncommon complication following ocular surgery. Malignant uveal melanoma is the most common intraocular tumour with the incidence about 0.7-1.0 in 100.000 inhabitants. Enucleation is still a standard treatment method for posterior uveal melanoma, but conservative methods are an adequate alternative. Brachytherapy has been used more than 20 years in our Department, stereotactic radiosurgery was introduced in 1999. We are presenting a case of diffuse (ring) iris melanoma with secondary glaucoma, together with the differential diagnosis issues. The tumor extension and the high IOP imposed the enucleation of an eye that still had a good visual acuity. The pathology confirmed the diagnosis and showed the extension to the anterior chamber angle and the ciliary processes. The prognosis in this rare type of uveal melanoma is worse than in other iris melanomas.

The management of retinoblastoma has gradually changed over the past few decades. There is a trend away from enucleation and external beam radiotherapy toward focal conservative treatments. This is primarily because of earlier detection of the disease and more focused treatment modalities. A two-year-old female child presented with a left retinal mass in front of the optic disc and total serous retinal detachment. Enucleation was performed for suspected retinoblastoma. Histopathologically the tumour was composed of astrocytic giant cells with a few spindle-shaped astrocytes. Presence of multiple necrotic foci in the tumour resembling micro-abscesses and extension of tumour cells beyond lamina cribrosa were additional unusual features.

OBJECTIVE: To report retinopathy following exposure to light from a commercially available class 3A green laser pointer.
METHODS: A 55-year-old woman with a ring melanoma was scheduled for enucleation. The eye (visual acuity 20/20) had a healthy-appearing macular retina. The retina was exposed to light from a commercially available class 3A green laser: 60 seconds to the fovea, 5 minutes to a site 5 degrees below the fovea, and 15 minutes to a site 5 degrees superior to the fovea. Color photographs were obtained before and after exposure. The eye was enucleated 20 days after exposure.
