The incidence and possible relevance of Y-linked microdeletions in babies born after intracytoplasmic sperm injection and their infertile fathers.

Microdeletions linked to deletion intervals 5 and 6 of the Y chromosome have been associated with male factor infertility. Members from at least two gene families lie in the region containing azoospermia factor (AZF), namely YRRM and DAZ. With the advent of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), it is possible for men with severe male factor infertility to produce a child. The genetic consequences of such a procedure have been questioned. This report describes the first study of a population (32 couples) of infertile fathers and their sons born after ICSI. The objectives were firstly to dete…

Does expectant fathers' attachment style or depressive mood relate to their embodied mentalizing capacity of their 12-month-old infant?

Parental embodied mentalizing is about how parents show with their body that they hold in mind their infants' mind. The main study's aim was to explore what influences fathers' embodied mentalizing. A random sample of 200 fathers and their 12-month-old infants were drawn from a large longitudinal, population-based dataset, the "Little in Norway (LiN)" study. Fathers' partner related attachment style was assessed at enrollment, symptoms of depression were measured four times during pregnancy and at 12 months postpartum, as was also parenting stress. Videotaped father-infant interactions were co…

"Cruel Fathers," Assortative Matching and Spousal Violence: Does Witnessing Spousal Violence as a Child Increase the Chances of Adult Victimhood?

The association between witnessing spousal violence (SV) as a child and the increased adult victimization is well-established, and explained in terms of neural adaptation. But establishing causation requires addressing issues of underreporting of both witnessing and facing violence, and endogeneity due to confounding variables. Moreover, the role of social pathways like nonrandom selection of partners also needs to be analyzed. Using India's Demographic Health Survey data (2019-2021), an endogenous treatment effects model is estimated allowing for different levels of predicted underreporting.

Trajectories of psychological distress for Australian fathers parenting a child on the autism spectrum: Evidence from early childhood to adolescence.

This study explores the mental health journey of fathers with children on the autism spectrum. Little is known about mental health over time for these fathers. This research spans six-timepoints from when children were aged 4 to 14 years, to track fathers' mental health. This study had three aims: (1) report estimates of fathers' psychological distress across 10 years of child development; (2) identify separate courses of psychological distress over time; and (3) identify early risk factors associated with these courses. This study used data from 281 fathers of children on the autism spectrum …

Stability and inter-family associations of hair endocannabinoid and N-acylethanolamines across the perinatal period in mothers, fathers, and children.

Analysis of endocannabinoids (ECs) and N-acylethanolamines (NAEs) in hair is assumed to retrospectively assess long-term EC/NAE concentrations. To inform their use, this study investigated stability of EC/NAE hair concentrations in mothers, fathers, and their children across the perinatal period as well as associations between family members. In a prospective cohort study, EC (AEA, 1-AG/2-AG) and NAE (SEA, PEA, OEA) levels were quantified in hair samples taken four times in mothers (n = 336) and their partners (n = 225) from pregnancy to two years postpartum and in offspring (n = 319) from sho…

When Too Much Help is of No Help: Mothers' and Fathers' Perceived Overprotective Behavior and (Mal)Adaptive Functioning in Adolescents.

Although parental overprotection is theorized to have lasting negative effects throughout a child's life, there is limited empirical evidenc … e used (Mage T1 = 11.11, T2 = 13.57, T3 = 16.28). At T1, adolescents reported on their mothers' and fathers' overprotection. From T1 to T3 adolescents and teachers reported about internalizing problems, academic achievement, prosocial, and antisocial behavior. The results showed concurrent associations between higher levels of perceived overprotection and …

Father and son with a pathogenic variant c.614dup p.(Gln206Thrfs*20) in the NR5A1 gene: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1), encoded by the NR5A1 gene, is a critical transcriptional regulator of adrenal and gonadal development. Pathogenic NR5A1 variants lead to a broad phenotypic spectrum characterized by insufficient virilization, including gonadal and testicular dysgenesis, ambiguous genitalia, hypospadias, micropenis, cryptorchidism, anorchia, and male infertility. This case report characterizes the clinical and genetic findings in a boy and his father with differences of sex development (DSD) caused by a heterozygous NR5A1 frameshift variant, thereby expanding our under

Familial Occurrence of Anti-NF155 Autoimmune Nodopathy in Father and Son: Expanding the Spectrum of IgG4-Related Nodopathies.

We report the first documented familial occurrence of Anti-Neurofascin-155 (Anti-NF155) autoimmune nodopathy in both a father and his son. Anti-NF155 nodopathy can resemble chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) but differs in its poor response to standard CIDP treatments such as intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and steroids, instead requiring B-cell-depleting therapies. A previously healthy 34-year-old male presented with a five-to-six week history of subacute sensory ataxia, symmetric proximal and distal weakness, and areflexia, preceded by right-sided Bell's palsy. Psychometric properties of JPSS (Japanese parenting style scale) between mother and father in West Java, Indonesia.

INTRODUCTION: Accurate measurement of parenting styles is essential for understanding disciplinary practices and comparing mother and father contributions in Indonesian cultural context. In this context, Japanese Parenting Style Scale (JPSS) assesses warmth, hostility, permissiveness, and harsh control, but psychometric evidence for Indonesian adaptation and measurement equivalence between mothers and fathers remains limited. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the initial psychometric properties of Indonesian version of JPSS and examine potential parental differences and measurement bi…

Subfertility in relation to gestational weight gain and gestational diabetes: the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study.

STUDY QUESTION: Do gestational weight gain trajectories and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) differ according to the underlying fecundability and use of ART? SUMMARY ANSWER: Women with ART pregnancies experienced slightly different gestational weight gain trajectories than those who conceived spontaneously within 3 months, with a higher weight gain during the second trimester and lower weight gain during the third trimester. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Use of ART and prolonged time-to-pregnancy (TTP) have both been linked to adverse pregnancy outcomes, including GDM. However, little is

Father and mother harsh parenting and adult romantic relationships over time: Individual behavior during adolescence.

The present study examined how father and mother harsh parenting as experienced in middle adolescence impacted individual behavior during late adolescence and subsequent harsh couple interaction with their romantic partner in adulthood using a prospective longitudinal design (n = 117 males, 239 females). Data were collected during home visits by a trained interviewer in which family members completed questionnaires and participated in videotaped structured interaction tasks that were coded by trained observers. We assessed the influence of harsh parenting in adolescence (ages 15 and 16, Time 1

A Mixed Methods Approach to Understand Mother-Father Relationship and Perceived Stress Among Black Pregnant Women.

BACKGROUND: Black women in the United States report moderate to high levels of perceived stress during pregnancy. Though lower levels of involvement and support from father of the baby (FOB) and higher levels of conflict have been associated with higher levels of maternal perceived stress, it is not clear how Black pregnant women experience the mother-father relationship and its influence on perceived stress. PURPOSE: To examine and describe the mother-father relationship and its role in experiences of perceived stress from the perspective of Black pregnant women. METHODS: Using a convergent

Is lifestyle different in male partners experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss compared to men fathering a live birth?

BACKGROUND: Recurrent pregnancy loss is characterized by three or more consecutive pregnancy losses. Although the causes of recurrent pregnancy loss are often unknown, chromosomal defects and fetal anomalies account for a significant proportion of cases. Previous research has primarily focused on maternal factors, but recent attention has shifted to the role of male lifestyle factors. OBJECTIVES: This study examined how male lifestyle factors and chronic illnesses affect recurrent pregnancy loss in a Danish cohort. Objectives included analyzing demographic and clinical features, as well as as

Direct and Indirect Longitudinal Associations of Mother and Father Engagement in Middle Childhood on Adolescent Externalizing and Internalizing Behaviors.

Parent engagement is an important aspect of parenting during childhood. However, little is known about the unique longitudinal associations of mother and father engagement with adolescents' externalizing and internalizing problem behaviors. This study uses Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study data to examine the potential direct and indirect associations of parent engagement at age 9 on adolescent externalizing and internalizing behaviors at age 15. The analytic sample size is 1349, and at age 9, the mean age of children was 9.40 years (SD = 0.37). Forty-eight percent of children were

Father-to-daughter transmission in late-onset OTC deficiency: an underestimated mechanism of inheritance of an X-linked disease.

BACKGROUND: Ornithine Transcarbamylase Deficiency (OTCD) is an X-linked urea cycle disorder characterized by acute hyperammonemic episodes. Hemizygous males are usually affected by a severe/fatal neonatal-onset form or, less frequently, by a late-onset form with milder disease course, depending on the residual enzymatic activity. Hyperammonemia can occur any time during life and patients could remain non- or mis-diagnosed due to unspecific symptoms. In heterozygous females, clinical presentation varies based on the extent of X chromosome inactivation. Maternal transmission in X-linked disease

Statistical methods to detect mother-father genetic interaction effects on risk of infertility: A genome-wide approach.

Infertility is a heterogeneous phenotype, and for many couples, the causes of fertility problems remain unknown. One understudied hypothesis is that allelic interactions between the genotypes of the two parents may influence the risk of infertility. Our aim was, therefore, to investigate how allelic interactions can be modeled using parental genotype data linked to 15,789 pregnancies selected from the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study. The newborns in 1304 of these pregnancies were conceived using assisted reproductive technologies (ART), and the remainder were conceived natural
