Evaluations of situational judgement tests to assess non-academic attributes in selection.

OBJECTIVES: This paper presents a systematic review of the emerging international research evidence for the use of situational judgement tests (SJTs) for testing important non-academic attributes (such as empathy, integrity and resilience) in selection processes. METHODS: Several databases (e.g. MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Web of Science) were searched to retrieve empirical studies relating to SJTs published between 1990 and 2010. Personal contact with experts in the field was made to identify any unpublished research or work in progress to obtain the most current material. Finally, reference lists we

EPR line shifts and line shape changes due to spin exchange of nitroxide-free radicals in liquids 4. Test of a method to measure re-encounter rates in liquids employing 15N and 14N nitroxide spin probes.

EPR line shifts due to spin exchange of perdeuterated 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-oxopiperidine-1-oxyl (14N-PDT) in aqueous solutions and the same probe isotopically substituted with 15N (15N-PDT) were measured from 293 to 338 and 287 to 353 K, respectively. Nonlinear least-squares fits of the EPR spectra yielded the resonance fields of the nitrogen hyperfine lines to high precision from which the shifts were deduced. The shifts are described by two terms: one linear and the other quadratic in the electron spin-exchange frequency, omegae. The quadratic term is due to spin exchange that occurs when t

The role of anxiety in the development of levodopa-induced dyskinesias in an animal model of Parkinson's disease, and the effect of chronic treatment with the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor citalopram.

INTRODUCTION: Levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID) is an inevitable complication of the long-term treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) with levodopa. In a rat model of LID, we observed that animals of almost identical genetic but slightly different environmental backgrounds displayed a very different profile in terms of their development and severity of LID. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We hypothesised that this heterogeneity can be attributed to different levels of anxiety in individual animals. We evaluated the basal anxiety level of rats in this study using the elevated plus maze (EPM), open field

Changes in cholinergic and purinergic neurotransmission in the diabetic rabbit bladder.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus (DM)-associated alterations in bladder function have been attributed to changes in autonomic receptors and alterations in detrusor structure and function. The changes in cholinergic and purinergic neurotransmission in the DM rabbit bladder were evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: DM was induced with alloxan in adult male New Zealand White rabbits. At 6 months, detrusor and bladder neck muscle strips were obtained and mounted in organ baths. Transmural electrical field stimulation (EFS: supramaximal voltage, 0.1 ms duration, 10 s trains) was performed in the presenc

Surgical decision making for unstable thoracolumbar spine injuries: results of a consensus panel review by the Spine Trauma Study Group.

OBJECTIVES: The optimal surgical approach and treatment of unstable thoracolumbar spine injuries are poorly defined owing to a lack of widely accepted level I clinical literature. This lack of evidence-based standards has led to varied practice patterns based on individual surgeon preferences. The purpose of this study was to survey the leaders in the field of spine trauma to define the major characteristics of thoracolumbar injuries that influence their surgical decision making. In the absence of good scientific data, expert consensus opinions may provide surgeons with a practical framework t

[Clinical research in the field of occupational diseases (pneumonology aspects)].

In the second half of the seventies, at the same time as the control of silicosis was achieved thanks to pathogenetic and preventive developments, the major efforts of the Clinica del Lavoro in the pneumological field were focused on studying dose-response relationship in asbestos-exposed subjects. Thus for the first time biological indicators (and not radiological ones) were mentioned for asbestos diseases. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) allowed to compare an internal dose indicator (number of bodies/ml) and schlerogenous effect indicators (dose-response). Our experience over nearly 20 years fo

Effect of substance P on neurally mediated contraction of rabbit airway smooth muscle.

The neuromodulatory action of substance P (SP) was investigated in isolated rabbit tracheal smooth muscle (TSM) segments contracted with electrical field stimulation (ES). The tissues were placed in organ baths containing modified Krebs-Ringer solution and stimulated at a constant voltage (8 V; 24.5 mA) and pulse duration (2 ms) with ES frequencies ranging from 1 to 100 Hz. In the presence of SP, there occurred a dose-dependent augmentation of the TSM contractile response to any given ES, with the maximal effect of SP obtained at a dose of 10(-7) M. Accordingly, with the administration of 10(-

Label-free electrical detection of salivary extracellular vesicles using an anti-CD63-functionalized gold extended-gate field-effect transistor.

Salivary extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are accessible candidates for non-invasive biomarker analysis, but their measurement commonly requires multistep, label-dependent workflows. Here a label-free gold extended-gate field-effect transistor (EG-FET) functionalized with an antibody that binds specifically to the Cluster of Differentiation 63 (anti-CD63), was developed for electrical detection of isolated salivary sEVs. Gold gates were modified with an 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid self-assembled monolayer and [1-Ethyl-3-(3-Dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide/N-Hydroxysuccinimide] EDC/NHS-mediated an

Living-Moss Multimodal Biosensing for Urban Atmospheric Metal Burden: Laboratory Calibration and Field Evaluation.

Atmospheric metal monitoring remains constrained by the sampling and analytical requirements of conventional methods. This study developed MossSense-HM, a living Hypnum cupressiforme-based multimodal sensing platform combining electrical impedance, optical reflectance, chlorophyll fluorescence, and microclimatic measurements to estimate accumulated metal burden. Laboratory exposures to Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Ni, and Cr at 25-200 μg cartridge-1 over 72 h produced exposure-dependent responses. Electrical changes were detectable within 6-12 h at the two highest doses, providing an indication of stress b

Angiosomes of the medial femoral condyle: Anatomical study of cutaneous perforators.

BACKGROUND: The vascularized corticoperiosteal medial femoral condyle flap is widely used in reconstructive microsurgery; however, intraoperative perfusion frequently differs from static anatomical expectations. Despite widespread clinical use, quantitative data on descending genicular artery perfusion territories and functional behavior of inter-perforator connections under controlled perfusion conditions remain limited. METHODS: Twenty fresh, unfixed human lower extremities underwent selective arterial cannulation and controlled sequential perfusion in a standardized ex-vivo model. A stepwi

Imaging Informatics for Thermal Ablation: CT Thermometry-Based Tissue Injury Mapping.

Sparse CT acquisition during CT-guided thermal ablation limits direct estimation of cumulative ther mal injury, which depends on temperature history rather than endpoint temperature alone. This study developed an imaging-informatics pipeline for near real-time Arrhenius injury mapping from workflow-compatible endpoint CT thermometry. Endpoint temperature fields were derived from ROI-level HU-temperature calibration and deployed in baseline-referenced form. Protocol-specific normalized temperature-history templates reconstructed heating trajectories at 180 and 300 s, and precompiled endpoint te

Maternal antibodies against the immunoglobulin M-degrading enzyme of Streptococcus suis, IdeSsuis, play an important role in bactericidal immunity in young piglets in the field.

Streptococcus suis (S. suis) expresses a specific immunoglobulin M (IgM) protease, designated IdeSsuis. Vaccination with recombinant IdeSsuis elicits protection against S. suis serotype 2. This study was initiated by the finding that the isogenic deletion mutant ΔideSsuis shows a hypervirulent phenotype in 4-week-old piglets, presumably in association with maternally derived antibodies against IdeSsuis. This prompted us to conduct a field study to test the working hypothesis that maternal αIdeSsuis IgG antibodies are biologically relevant. Investigations in one herd with autogenous S. suis vac

DATS: A Depth-Aware Transformer Hybrid Framework for Geological Parameter Prediction.

Accurate prediction of reservoir permeability constitutes a central task in hydrocarbon field development, but it remains challenging because core measurements are sparse and heterogeneous reservoirs commonly exhibit nonunique logging responses. Conventional machine learning methods typically treat each core measurement as an independent sample for end-to-end permeability prediction, thereby overlooking the stratigraphic context embedded in depth-ordered core sequences. In this study, we propose a depth-aware Transformer-based hybrid modeling framework, termed DATS, for geological parameter pr

Decoupling high-temperature phase transition and charge-transfer emission in a crown ether-based crystal.

Crown ether-ammonium inclusion compounds have attracted great interest in the fields of supramolecular chemistry, crystal engineering, and molecular switches due to their tunable host-guest dynamics and stimuli-responsive phase transitions. However, most reported systems exhibit phase transitions only below room temperature, limiting practical applications, and their luminescence properties remain largely unexplored. Herein, we report a host-guest inclusion compound, [(2-fluorophenethylaminium)(18-crown-6)][PF6] (1) that undergoes a reversible phase transition at 404 K, approaching the highest

Strategies to enhance drug retention after intratumoral and locoregional therapy: A scoping review.

The effectiveness of intratumoral and locoregional therapies depends on achieving and maintaining therapeutic drug concentrations within tumors. Intratumoral therapy refers to direct injection into tumor tissue, locoregional therapy refers to delivery confined to a tumor-bearing region, and retention refers to persistence of the administered agent within the tumor over time. Retention is distinguished from initial delivery, accumulation, penetration, spatial distribution, and therapeutic efficacy. We conducted a PRISMA-ScR-guided scoping review to map strategies that enhance local retention or

Genomics, Multi-Omics, and Emerging Artificial Intelligence for Combined Drought-Heat Stress Resilience in Plants: A Structured Narrative Review.

Combined drought-heat stress is not adequately described by adding the responses to drought and heat in isolation. Water limitation restricts evaporative cooling, whereas high temperature increases atmospheric demand and threatens photosynthesis, proteostasis, and reproduction. To assess what has been demonstrated rather than merely proposed, we combined a structured narrative review with a study-level evidence map spanning genomics, multi-omics, and emerging artificial intelligence (AI). The PubMed search, updated on 9 August 2026, returned 254 records; targeted and backward searches contribu

HiTMM: Generative Temporal Masked Modeling of Human Interactive Motions.

We have recently seen some progress in the current field of human-human interaction generation. However, directly generating complex two-person interactive motions remains a significant challenge. Meanwhile, these models typically employ two independent timelines when generating motions for interactive scenarios involving two individuals. This design overlooks the temporal dependencies between motions at each timestep and fails to account for the roles of active and reactive participants during the generation process, often resulting in unrealistic and unnatural motions. In this work, we propo

Quantitative characterization of thermo-optically modulated microbend loss in silica fibers for high-temperature deep-well telemetry.

To mitigate the nonlinear amplification of fiber micro-bend loss in high-temperature deep-well environments (303.15 ~ 483.15 K), this study establishes an equivalent refractive index model integrating thermal, mechanical, and optical fields. The model incorporates thermo-optic effects(TOEs) directly into the micro-bend equivalent refractive index expression, facilitating unified modeling of coupled thermal and bending perturbations. Finite element eigenmode analysis was employed to quantify the synergistic effects of bending radius (0.1 ~ 1.0 mm) and temperature on radiation leakage and mode c

Natural products for depression: Preclinical insights into microbiota-gut-brain axis modulation and pharmacological potential.

The microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA) is progressively associated with the pathophysiology of depression. This analysis consolidates existing preclinical findings on MGBA mechanisms associated with depression and assesses natural-product therapies through three key metabolite-related pathways: bile acid-responsive signaling via the farnesoid X receptor, G protein-coupled bile acid receptor 1, vitamin D receptor, and pregnane X receptor; metabolites from the kynurenine pathway and their connection to N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor signaling; and microbial indole-aryl hydrocarbon receptor signalin
