The radial forearm septocutaneous flap is an excellent source of thin tissue with an anatomically consistent network of large vessels that simplify microsurgical transfer. It may be divided into multiple flaps leaving a single donor-site defect. The clinical usefulness of this concept is demonstrated in a single case in which simultaneous coverage of electrical burns of both feet was required.

A reverse forearm flap was used in the reconstruction of the hands of two epileptic patients, who had sustained deep dermal burns of the right hand and forearm. The base of both flaps consisted of scarred, transplanted skin. Furthermore one flap was split. Venous drainage was preserved. A good result was observed in both cases.

Nine cases of ipsilateral humeral shaft and forearm fractures in multiply injured patients were reviewed in an attempt to ascertain the preferred management of these complex injuries. Satisfactory anatomic and functional results were achieved only in those cases treated by rigid internal fixation of the humeral fractures. Nonoperative management is associated with a significant risk of malunion or nonunion of the humerus.

A case is reported of an unusual double injury, in which a lower limb salvage procedure employed a free radial forearm flap from an amputated upper limb. The use of amputated parts for salvage procedures is well documented but none has previously involved a free forearm flap. This clinical case shows that the entire forearm and hand skin can be adequately perfused on the radial artery along with the superficial palmar arch.

This prospective study reports treatment by neurolysis then wrapping the nerves in vascularized forearm fascia and, when necessary, adjunctive procedures of twelve median and two ulnar nerves in continuity in the distal forearm with neurogenic pain. They may go undetected when they are found in unusual places, such as the forearm, and hence, cause a delay in diagnosis and treatment. PURPOSE: Osteomyelitis of the wrist and distal forearm is rare but functionally devastating because of the extensive debridement needed for infection control and reconstructive surgery needed to regain function. Management guidelines and outcomes are poorly defined and often default to amputation as a last resort strategy for infection control.
