While fractures around the knee are known to be rare, physicians have encountered a rise in the frequency due to the increased participation of children and adolescents in high-impact sports at a younger age. Fifty-five children with 55 fractures of the femur were prospectively studied for the presence of ligamentous instability of the knee within 3 weeks from the time of injury. INTRODUCTION: Avulsions of the lesser femoral trochanter are rare injuries in the adolescent population. An acute avulsion causes severe functional impairment with compromised hip flexion. CASE: A 13-year-old boy suffered a sports injury of the right knee. The clinical examination showed swelling, inability to bear weight, and pain involving the inferior apex of the patella and the anterior tibial tuberosity. We report a case of a non-traumatic right-sided os ischium fracture and ramus inferior fracture in an 18-year-old cricket athlete of the national Dutch team. Occasionally, apophyseal avulsion fractures of the pelvis occur; however, non-traumatic isolated fractures of the os ischium are rare. This case highlights the treatment and result of an unusual cricket injury.

Lumbosacral nerve root avulsion uncommonly complicates major trauma. Most patients also have pelvic or lumbar fractures. We present a patient who had a high-velocity vehicle accident with traumatic hip dislocation without fractures of the spine or pelvis. MRI demonstrated lumbosacral traumatic pseudomeningoceles. We used balanced fast field echo and MR myelography to make the diagnosis and show the extent of the pseudomeningocele.

We retrospectively reviewed 201 digit replantations or revascularizations that were performed between August 2007 and June 2015. Leeching therapy was used in 48 digits and was more commonly required in replanted digits. OBJECTIVE: We report the first documented case of avulsion of the serratus anterior muscle. A young man had difficulty in abducting his arm the day after using a rowing ergometer. Examination showed a firm mass on his lateral thoracic wall. This became firm with protraction of the scapula. Avulsion was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning. Sleeve fracture of the inferior pole of the patella is a rare and distinctive fracture in children with few published reports. These fractures are frequently misdiagnosed and neglected. We highlight a case of a neglected and misdiagnosed sleeve fracture of the patella in an eleven-year-old boy. This was initially diagnosed as an avulsion fracture of the tibial tubercle. A good outcome was achieved after open reduction and internal fixation.

Fractures of the coracoid process are uncommon injuries and are usually the result of high-energy trauma or avulsion-type injuries. Typically coracoid fractures treated with nonoperative management have yielded good results. Operative treatment of coracoid fractures is reserved for a subset of clinical situations, including fracture nonunion. We detail our technique for arthroscopic debridement of a Type II coracoid fracture nonunion, as well as the use of arthroscopic-assisted percutaneous fixation for a Type II coracoid fracture.
