Do elderly clubs in Alexandria meet the needs of their consumers?

The rapid rise in the number of the independent elderly persons in the community has become a world-wide phenomenon. Recently, more attention has been devoted to community based programs for the elderly. One type of these programs offering multiple services is the elderly clubs. These clubs may provide health and physical care beside social interaction and peer group support for the independent elderly in the community. In Alexandria, elderly health and social care provided are not coping with the increasing numbers of the aged population and consequently with their needs and problems. So the

Using Latent Class Analysis to Identify Health Lifestyle Profiles and Their Association with Suicidality among Adolescents in Benin.

Youth suicidality is considerably prevalent in low- and middle-income countries, including Benin. Factors such as psychosocial distress, socio-environmental factors, and health risk behaviors are associated with suicidality. However, little is known about how these factors co-occur in these countries. An analysis of these factors taken together would help to identify the profiles most at risk and better target prevention policies. Our study aimed to identify profiles related to these factors and their association with suicidality among adolescents in Benin. Data from the 2016 Global School-Bas

A Mixed-Methods Examination of Fertility Desires and Reproductive Planning Among Low-Income Black Fathers.

BACKGROUND: Reproductive life planning (RLP) supports the achievement of fertility goals for both men and women, yet most studies focus on women. Black fathers living with low income, a vulnerable population at risk for multiple unplanned pregnancies and negatively stereotyped as reproductively irresponsible, are rarely asked about their RLP. This study aimed to examine the relationship between Black fathers' fertility desires and pregnancy prevention strategies and explore their contextual nuance. METHODS: A concurrent mixed-methods approach was conducted using quantitative data (n = 36) and

Evidence on sexual and reproductive health service delivery during and post COVID-19: a multi-country facility assessment.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted global health systems, and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) were among the services often receiving less priority compared to other urgent health needs. Anticipated disruptions included limited access to contraception, abortion care, sexually transmitted infections (STI) prevention, and gender-based violence (GBV) support, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This study aimed to assess the availability, readiness, and recovery of SRH services during and after the pandemic across nine countries. METHODS: This repeated

Successful Provision of Long-Acting Reversible Contraception in a Sexual Health Clinic.

BACKGROUND: Women who attend sexual health clinics are at high risk for sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy. Long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) are very effective contraceptive methods, but the provision of LARC in such clinics is not well described in the literature. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective chart review of women who presented to Denver Sexual Health Clinic for any reason and received family planning services between April 1, 2016, and October 31, 2018. We assessed demographic and clinical factors associated with contraceptive method received and c

A case study of a hepatitis B screening and blood pressure assesment program in Los Angeles County, 2012-2013.

Low-income, uninsured women are disproportionately affected by cardiovascular disease (CVD). Facilitating primary and secondary prevention of CVD in this population requires supports beyond clinical and public health agencies. The Illinois WISEWOMAN Program (IWP) provides CVD prevention, screening, and management for women who lack health insurance in Illinois, including the use of referral systems to link clients to needed services. To support these efforts, the 7 local agencies implementing IWP developed linkages to facilitate participant referrals for health promotion, clinical services, an

Effectiveness of the "Living with Cancer" peer self-management support program for persons with advanced cancer and their relatives: study protocol of a non-randomized stepped wedge study.

BACKGROUND: Persons with advanced cancer and their relatives experience physical, emotional, and psychosocial consequences of the illness. Most of the time, they must deal with these themselves. While peer self-management support programs may be helpful, there is little evidence on their value for this population. We present the research protocol of our SMART study that will evaluate the effectiveness of the "Living with Cancer" peer self-management support program, aimed at improving self-management behaviors, self-efficacy, and health-related quality of life of persons with advanced cancer a

Experiences of women with disabilities during and after COVID-19: Needs, sources of support and implications for policy and practice.

Approximately 700 million women and girls worldwide live with disabilities, facing compounded discrimination due to both gender and disability. Despite their large numbers, they are often excluded from decision-making and rendered invisible. Research shows that crisis such as nature disasters and public health crises affects people with disabilities more severely than the general population, and women more than men. Yet, studies focusing specifically on women with disabilities in such contexts remain scarce. The present qualitative study aimed to address this gap by analyzing 56 semi-structure

Lost in Translation and Left Behind: Lived Experiences of Chinese Immigrants During the 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires.

The January 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles County (LAC) caused widespread destruction and disproportionately affected linguistically diverse communities. Chinese immigrants, one of the largest immigrant groups in LAC, may have experienced heightened vulnerability due to limited English proficiency. To examine Chinese immigrants' experiences with emergency alerts and recovery during the 2025 wildfire, we conducted two focus groups in January 2026 with 16 Chinese participants who had been directly impacted by the wildfire. Discussions explored their trusted communication channels, fire alerts, ev

Supporting local ownership of transition processes: a key pathway to sustaining the HIV response.

Globally, an increasing number of countries have made progress towards HIV epidemic control, yet decreasing donor funding and insufficient domestic investments threaten these strides. Within this context, the global community is interested in how to successfully transition responsibility for HIV services from donor-funded programmes to local ownership within the broader healthcare system. This analysis explores how to centre local leadership in transition processes to ensure long-term sustainability of HIV programmes, including moving from external to domestic financing. Existing frameworks sho

New perspectives in nutrition management of diabetes mellitus.

Diet remains the cornerstone in the management of diabetes mellitus. A prudent nutrition plan reduces the exaggerated risk for atherosclerotic heart disease and metabolic complications of diabetes by improving lipid and glycemic control. The current consensus diabetes diet recommends 55 to 60 percent of energy as carbohydrate, 12 to 20 percent as protein, and less than 30 percent fat. Total cholesterol intake should be less than 300 mg per day. Fiber appears to have distinct benefits in improving glucose and lipid levels; therefore, an intake of up to 40 g per day or 15 to 25 g/1,000 kcal of f

Geographic Information System (GIS) for mapping diagnostic services and sub-district administrative boundaries in tuberculosis: A novel attempt from India.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of death globally, with India accounting for 25% of the total disease burden. A significant barrier to elimination is delayed or inequitable access to diagnostic services, often accelerated by a lack of granular administrative health boundaries for effective planning. Additionally, identifying the exact locations of TB diagnostic facilities is relevant for understanding the geographic coverage of diagnostic services. METHODS: - Diverse types of data were obtained from multiple health and non-health sources. The study mapped 77 Tuberculosis

A One Health Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (OH GESI) Framework to strengthen equity goals of One Health implementation tools.

There is a persistent lack of gender and social inclusion in widely used One Health assessment, planning and implementation tools, underscoring the gap between high-level One Health policy commitments to equality and inclusion and real-world practice. Most One Health tools, including those produced by international agencies with high-level commitments, do not adequately address gender equality or social equity. To tackle this issue, the authors developed the One Health Gender Equality and Social Inclusion assessment framework (OH-GESI), which evaluates how tools support gender equality, empowe
