Chronic and recurrent abdominal pain are frequent diagnostic problems in school age and adolescent children. The authors examined the IgG antibodies to Helicobacter pylori using ELISA in a group of 91 children. Positive results were found in 20 children, i.e. 22%. All children positive for Helicobacter pylori antibodies underwent an endoscopic examination with bioptic sampling of the gastric and duodenal mucosa. Bioptic samples were examined histologically and Helicobacter pylori was identified microscopically and using urease tests and cultivation. All 20 children with antibodies to Helicobac

Most patients with chronic duodenal ulcer disease have Helicobacter pylori infection and eradicating it considerably reduces the relapse rate. The prevalence of H pylori in 80 patients (mean age = 52 years, range 17-85) presenting with acute perforated duodenal ulcer was examined and compared with age and sex matched hospital control patients. H pylori state was assessed by serum anti-H pylori IgG (Helico-G kit, Porton) using a titre of 18 or less as negative with a specificity of 89% and sensitivity of 88%. Only 47% of the perforated duodenal ulcer patients were positive for H pylori and this

N-Methyl-N-nitro-N'-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) is a gastric carcinogen in several animal species and has been used in a number of systems to dissect the co-carcinogenic potential of various compounds in the induction of gastric adenocarcinoma. Recent epidemiological evidence suggests that Helicobacter pylori may play a role as a co-carcinogen in the etiology of this tumor in humans and we have been interested in developing an animal model to study this possibility. A related organism, H. mustelae, naturally colonizes the ferret stomach and causes persistent chronic gastritis. The pathology elicit

We have assessed 270 consecutive patients (age range 0.8-20 years) referred for endoscopic study because of abdominal pain during 32 months. Helicobacter pylori (HP) was detected by culture in 91 cases (33.7%). HP colonization increased significantly with age (p less than 0.01). Nine patients less than 5 years of age were colonized by HP. A previous history of peptic ulcer disease in first-degree relatives was significantly more frequent in the HP-positive group (p less than 0.001). The frequency of HP positiveness as related to diagnosis was: normal, 3.3%; nonactive chronic gastritis, 100%; a

Over a period of 3 months, 85 patients who underwent gastroscopy had antral biopsy taken for Clotest, histology and/or culture for Helicobacter pylori (HP). The sensitivity and specificity of Clotest were found to be 77% and 96% respectively with negative predictive value of 63% and positive predictive value of 98%. Ninety-two percent of the positive Clotests were positive within 20 minutes, thus giving rapid result. Therefore, Clotest is a rapid, sensitive and highly specific test for HP infection. A high correlation between HP infection and chronic gastritis was noted and the prevalence of H

There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that Helicobacter pylori plays a pathogenic role in gastric and duodenal ulceration. A strong association between infection with this organism and the presence of active chronic gastritis in the antrum has been documented. However, the mechanism through which this gastritis and the associated degenerative changes in the mucosa are produced is not fully understood. It is possible that the bacterium itself produces chemotactic factors that recruit granulocytes into the mucosa, although there is scant evidence to indicate the importance of any one me

Although some authors believe that Helicobacter pylori is the etiologic agent in chronic nonspecific gastritis, it has also been suggested that the bacterium colonizes inflamed mucosa as a secondary event. This study documents the prevalence of H. pylori in 28 patients with pernicious anemia and compares the findings with those of a group of 28 age-, race-, and sex-matched asymptomatic control subjects. All subjects underwent endoscopy with biopsy of the gastric antrum and corpus. A sample of serum was obtained before endoscopy for determination of antibodies (immunoglobulin A and immunoglobul

Gastric infection by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is associated with extra-gastric pathologies. H. pylori can promote these pathologies by generating extracellular vesicles (Hp-EVs), which cross biological barriers and access other tissues through the circulation. However, the presence of Hp-EVs in the human circulation has not been demonstrated. We isolated and characterized EVs from serum of non-infected and infected patients, and used immunoblots (IB) to identify markers from host cells EVs (h-EVs) and Hp-EVs. We also assessed the predictive capacity of IB with an anti-Urease subunit B (

OBJECTIVE: Limited evidence suggests an association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and diminished cognitive function in children; nonetheless, the role of gastric inflammation remains unclear. We examined the association of H. pylori infection and serum pepsinogens, markers of gastric inflammation, with cognitive function in children aged 10-12 years.
METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted among 233 infants from Arab towns in Israel, who were followed up at ages 10-12 years. Cognitive function was assessed using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-IV edi

Chronic urticaria (CU) is a complex inflammatory skin disorder characterized by recurrent wheals and pruritus lasting longer than six weeks, often resulting in significant impairment in quality of life, sleep disturbance, and psychological distress. Although the majority of cases are classified as chronic spontaneous urticaria without identifiable triggers, a growing body of literature suggests that persistent infections may contribute to disease pathogenesis through immune-mediated mechanisms. Helicobacter pylori infection has been increasingly investigated because of its ability to induce ch

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a gram-negative bacterium that infects approximately half of the worldwide population. Although asymptomatic in most people, it can cause non-ulcer dyspepsia, gastro-duodenal ulcer disease and gastric cancer. H. pylori infection has also been correlated with extra-intestinal diseases like unexplained iron-deficiency anemia, immune thrombocytopenia and vitamin B12 deficiency. Its impact on pregnancy issues has also been studied, but the relationship is less clear. Recently, multiple meta-analyses found that H. pylori infection is correlated with gestational di

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the most prevalent chronic bacterial infections worldwide. This bacillus colonizes the human stomach lifelong, where it induces chronic gastritis, evolving in some cases to gastro-duodenal ulcers, gastric adenocarcinoma, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. H. pylori infection has also been associated with extragastric diseases, and clinical data have suggested a role in liver pathogenesis. This retrospective study evaluated the consequences of chronic infection with gastric Helicobacters on liver pathogenesis in a mouse experiment

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a pathogenic bacterium that can survive in the human gastric mucosa and cause chronic infections. More than half of the global population is affected by H. pylori infection, which is closely associated with the development of gastritis, gastric ulcers, gastric cancer, and mucosa - associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. The immune response triggered by H. pylori infection is complex and involves multiple immune cells. Among them, helper T cells (Th cells) play a crucial role in regulating the immune response. In recent years, researchers have conducted in - dept

Helicobacter heilmannii (H. heilmannii) is an uncommon gastric pathogen increasingly recognized for its role in gastrointestinal diseases. Unlike Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), H. heilmannii is rarely detected and often overlooked. It is typically associated with milder pathological features, including less neutrophilic activity, reduced mononuclear infiltration, and endoscopic signs of chronic gastritis without erosions or ulcers. We report a case of a 71-year-old female patient with a history of invasive breast carcinoma who presented with dysphagia, nausea, and dyspepsia following chemora

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a key gastric mucosal pathogen, causes chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric cancer. H. pylori remodel the gastric microenvironment through metabolic reprogramming to drive pathogenesis. CagA+ strains disrupt lipid metabolism, increasing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiovascular, and Alzheimer's risks via PPAR interference, GBA1 demethylation, and altered FABP1/APOA1 expression, reversible by eradication. In glucose metabolism, H. pylori promote carcinogenesis via Lonp1-induced glycolysis, PDK1/Akt dysregulation, and HKDC1/TGF-β1/MDFI-mediated e

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and autoimmune inflammation of the gastric mucosa are recognized as the leading etiological factors of chronic atrophic gastritis. The mechanisms of atrophy formation and progression with the risk of gastric cancer development are heterogeneous, which requires a deeper study of the molecular mechanisms of relationship, peculiarities of the course of autoimmune gastritis both in combination with H. pylori and after eradication, as well as without H. pylori infection (naïve AIG). Helicobacter pylori infects more than half of the world's population. Chronic H. pylori infection is associated with the development of precancerous gastric conditions, including chronic atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia, which may progress to peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer. In 2020, an estimated 1.09 million new cases of gastric cancer were reported worldwide. Gastric cancer continues to pose a significant health burden and is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, with an estimated 769,000 deaths occurring annually. To decrease gastric cancer-related
