Determinants and prediction of Chlamydia trachomatis re-testing and re-infection within 1 year among heterosexuals with chlamydia attending a sexual health clinic.

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STI) globally, and re-infections are common. Current Australian guidelines recommend re-testing for chlamydia 3 months after treatment to identify possible re-infection. Patient-delivered partner therapy (PDPT) has been proposed to control chlamydia re-infection among heterosexuals. We aimed to identify determinants and the prediction of chlamydia re-testing and re-infection within 1 year among heterosexuals with chlamydia to identify potential PDPT candidates. METHODS: Our baseline data i

Perceptions of an HIV self-testing intervention and its potential role in addressing the barriers to HIV testing among at-risk heterosexual men: a qualitative analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Voluntary HIV testing rates are still low in several Asian countries including Singapore. HIV self-testing (HIVST) has the potential to increase testing, leading to earlier diagnosis and better prognosis. However, the views of at-risk individuals, especially heterosexual men (HSM), who are not coming forward for testing are still poorly understood. In this study, we examined the barriers and facilitators to and delivery preferences for HIVST in order to implement an effective intervention in Singapore. METHODS: From May 2017 to June 2018, 48 in-depth interviews were conducted with

Oral, Vaginal and Anal Sexual Practices among Heterosexual Males and Females Attending a Sexual Health Clinic: A Cross-Sectional Survey in Melbourne, Australia.

Sex practices among heterosexuals are not well studied. We aimed to explore sexual practices among heterosexuals attending a sexual health clinic. This cross-sectional survey was conducted at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre between March and April 2019. Data were collected on kissing, oral sex (fellatio or cunnilingus), vaginal sex, anal sex and rimming in the previous 3 months. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the associations between engaging in anal sex and other sex practices. There were 709 participants (333 men; 376 women) who were eligi

Self-Reported History of Chlamydia or Gonorrhea Testing Among Heterosexual Women at High Risk of HIV Infection, National HIV Behavioral Surveillance, 2013.

BACKGROUND: The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends annual chlamydia and gonorrhea screening for sexually active women <25 and ≥25 years old with associated risk factors. We sought to determine self-reported chlamydia and gonorrhea testing and diagnosis rates in the past 12 months in a community-based sample of heterosexual women at high risk of HIV infection. METHODS: We used National HIV Behavioral Surveillance data from 2013 when surveillance was conducted in heterosexual adults with low social economic status. Our analysis was restricted to 18- to 44-year-old women who answered q

Influence of geographic origin on AIDS and serious non-AIDS morbidity/mortality during cART among heterosexual HIV-infected men and women in France.

BACKGROUND: The influence of geographic origin on the risk of severe illness and death on cART has not been explored in European countries. METHOD: We studied antiretroviral-naïve heterosexual HIV-1-infected individuals enrolled in the FHDH-ANRS CO4 cohort in France who started cART between 2006 and 2011. Individuals originating from France (French natives), sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and non-French West-Indies (NFW) were studied until 2012. Crude and adjusted rate ratios (aRR) of severe morbid events/deaths (AIDS-related and non-AIDS-related) were calculated using Poisson regression models str

Assessing Sexual Orientation-Related Obsessions and Compulsions in Italian Heterosexual Individuals: Development and Validation of the Sexual Orientation Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (SO-OCS).

Sexual Orientation-Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (SO-OCD) is characterized by intrusive thoughts, images, and urges related to one's sexual orientation, and by consequent avoidance, reassurance seeking, and overt and covert compulsions. Currently there is no short self-report measure that assesses SO-OCD symptoms. The current article describes two studies that develop and evaluate the first version of the Sexual Orientation Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (SO-OCS), a 14-item Italian self-report measure targeted towards heterosexual individuals. In Study 1, the SO-OCS was developed and refined throu

Mediation effects of problem drinking and marijuana use on HIV sexual risk behaviors among childhood sexually abused South African heterosexual men.

HIV/AIDS prevalence in South Africa is one of the highest in the world with heterosexual, transmission predominantly promoting the epidemic. The goal of this study is to examine whether, marijuana use and problem drinking mediate the relationship between histories of childhood sexual, abuse (CSA) and HIV risk behaviors among heterosexual men. Participants were 1181 Black men aged, 18-45 from randomly selected neighborhoods in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. Audio computer assisted, self-interviewing was used to assess self-reported childhood sexual abuse, problem drinking, and marijuana (

Lancefield group G Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis: an unusual aetiology of perianal streptococcal dermatitis acquired from heterosexual oral-anal intercourse.

Perianal streptococcal dermatitis (PSD) is an uncommon superficial cutaneous infection of the perianal area, almost exclusively described in children and mainly caused by group A streptococci. We report here a case of PSD caused by Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis, Lancefield group G, in an adult man due to heterosexual oral-anal sexual contact.

Sexual health, risk behaviors, and substance use in heterosexual-identified women with female sex partners: 2002 US National Survey of Family Growth.

BACKGROUND: Despite knowledge that some people engage in same-sex sexuality without espousing a sexual minority identity, this has rarely been studied in women. METHODS: Heterosexual women aged 20 to 44 who indicated one or more female sex partners in the past year were compared to those with less recent female sex partners, and to bisexual, homosexual, and exclusively heterosexual women using 2002 US National Survey of Family Growth data. RESULTS: Compared to exclusively heterosexual women, heterosexual women with a past-year female sex partner were significantly more likely to smoke tobacc

Epidemic crack cocaine use linked with epidemics of genital ulcer disease and heterosexual HIV infection in the Bahamas: evidence of impact of prevention and control measures.

BACKGROUND: Epidemic freebase/crack cocaine use began in the Bahamas in 1982, closely followed by epidemics of genital ulcer disease (GUD) and HIV infection. Numbers of new clients receiving ambulatory treatment for cocaine use in Nassau peaked in 1984. GOAL: To assess interrelations among epidemics of crack use, GUD, and HIV infection. STUDY DESIGN: The study was designed for review and comparison of temporal trends in ambulatory and inpatient treatment of cocaine users and in numbers of cases of sexually transmitted disease (STD) and HIV infection in the Bahamas. A retrospective case-contr

Heterosexual transmission as the most common route of acute hepatitis B virus infection among adults in Taiwan--the importance of extending vaccination to susceptible adults.

Sixty adult patients with acute viral hepatitis B (AVHB) and 93 controls were interviewed to assess potential risk factors of hepatitis B. Heterosexual contact was the only significant factor, and it was associated with 83% of cases. A history of having new sex partners or multiple sex partners within 6 months before the onset of AVHB or first sexual contact before 20 years of age were significantly associated with HBV infection (P < .005, respectively). There was a dose-response relationship between the number of sex partners and the risk of HBV infection. In multivariate analyses, a history

Feasibility and Acceptability of Barbershop-Based HIV Prevention Among Heterosexual Men in Kalangala Islands, Uganda: Protocol for a Cluster Randomized Trial (HPTN 111).

BACKGROUND: Globally, successful strategies to engage high-risk heterosexual men in HIV prevention are scarce, resulting in limited access and uptake. Barbershops offer a potential venue for HIV prevention. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a barbershop-based HIV prevention initiative. The secondary objectives were to compare completion of self-initiated HIV testing between intervention and control groups, evaluate the preliminary effectiveness of the intervention on change in behaviors associated with HIV acquisition, compare interest in or

Adversarial Heterosexual Beliefs, Sexual Entitlement Cognitions, and Condom Use Resistance Intentions among Sober versus Intoxicated Men: A Multigroup Mediation Model.

Men's condom use resistance (CUR) is common and associated with negative health consequences. CUR can involve both coercive and noncoercive strategies, and like other types of sexual coercion, may be exacerbated by alcohol use. Following sociocultural and feminist theories, the current study examined the associations between adversarial heterosexual beliefs and coercive and noncoercive CUR intentions via sexual entitlement cognitions among sober versus intoxicated men. Non-problem drinking young adult men (N = 282) completed background surveys, an in-lab alcohol administration procedure, and a

Experiences of oral pre-exposure prophylaxis use among heterosexual men accessing sexual and reproductive health services in South Africa: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: South African men face a substantial burden of HIV and are less likely to test for HIV and initiate antiretroviral therapy if tested positive and more likely to die from AIDS-related causes than women. In addition to condoms and circumcision, guidelines provide for the use of daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as an HIV prevention intervention for any men who recognize their need and request PrEP. However, heterosexual men have not been a focus of PrEP programmes, and since its introduction, there is limited literature on PrEP use among men in South Africa. This study exp

The intergenerational transmission of attachment during middle childhood in lesbian, gay, and heterosexual parent families through assisted reproduction: The mediating role of reflective functioning.

The present study examined the attachment patterns distribution of 60 lesbian mothers, 50 gay fathers, and 42 heterosexual parents through assisted reproduction and their 76 children, using the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) and the Friends and Family Interview (FFI), respectively. The study also explored the intergenerational transmission of attachment through reflective functioning (AAI-RF). All families lived in Italy and children were aged 6-12 years (Myears = 8.11, SD = 2.17; 48.68% assigned female at birth). The AAI patterns distribution was similar across family types and did not sign
