This research explores the phenomenon of storytelling within a context of incarceration and stigma. These findings point toward the importance of providing programming to women within the criminal justice system that allows for meaningful interaction with normative individuals and opportunities for storytelling.

PURPOSE: To present a surgical intervention for a posterior haptic trapped between the cartridge and plunger during intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Posterior haptic incarceration was detected in 36 cases during implantation of a one-piece foldable IOL during cataract surgery with phacoemulsification. In 11 of the patients (Group 1), recovery was achieved by forcibly pulling out the incarcerated posterior haptic. In 25 cases (Group 2), the haptic was recovered by using an MVR knife to cut the cartridge tip from the bottom up parallel to the trapped haptic.

Transmesenteric hernia is a rare cause of bowel obstruction and strangulation. It can be due to iatrogenic injury, trauma, inflammatory and … rmed to find >75% of small bowel herniating through a proximal jejunal mesenteric defect leading to incarceration and early strangulation. No resection was required and patient recovered well. This case presents yet another rare pathology and highlights the importance of keeping a low threshold for operative intervention in uncertain cases.

A Meckel's diverticulum is a remnant of the vitelline duct, which leads to the formation of a true diverticulum containing all layers of the small intestine. The diverticulum can contain ectopic gastric, duodenal or pancreatic tissue and is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract with estimates of prevalence ranging from 0.3% to 3%. The condition is usually clinically silent. In children the most common complication is gastrointestinal bleeding caused by ulceration due to the acid secretion by ectopic gastric mucosa.

OBJECTIVE: Female offenders have different risk factors for offending than do male offenders, and elevated rates of interpersonal victimization such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, and family and community violence, are common in histories of incarcerated women. We used factor analysis to examine patterns of traumatic events experienced by women in jail and explored how these patterns were associated with 4 psychiatric disorders (posttraumatic stress disorder [PTSD], major depression, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorder) observed in this sample.

Amyand's hernia is a rare type of hernia where the vermiform appendix is within an inguinal hernia sac. Tumors of the appendix are quite uncommon. The coincidence of an Amyand's hernia with neuroendocrine tumor of the appendix, as in our case, is even more rarely reported. We report the case of an 81-year-old male who presented with an incarcerated right inguinal hernia. After resuscitation, the clinical diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography. It showed an incarcerated right inguinal hernia which contained the distal ileum, cecum, thickened appendix, as well as a small amount of fluid.

CONCLUSION: In cases, where there is a known intra-abdominal malignancy & the presence of an incarcerated hernia, there should be a high index of suspicion for the presence of tumour within the hernial contents.
