[Allergic alveolitis due to inhalation of avian proteins (author's transl)].

Allergic alveolitis is the immunologic response of the alveolar wall and the interstitial spaces of lung to inhalation of different organic, antigenic substances. This paper presents the case of a 12 1/2-year old girl with a pulmonary disease caused by inhalation of protein contained in the excrement dust from budgerigars. In the paat few years several reports already described this disease in breeders of pigeons and budgerigars. During some years our patient had recurrent episodes of a subacute illness with severe cough, dysponea, cyanosis of lips, tachycardia, and weakness. Auscultation show…

Effects of inhalation anesthesia with sevoflurane combined with oxygen inhalation on cerebral oxygen metabolism and cognitive function in lung cancer patients undergoing unilateral lung ventilation.

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the effects of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia on cerebral oxygenation and neurocognitive function during one-lung ventilation for lung cancer surgery. METHODS: This retrospective study included 109 patients with lung cancer who underwent unilateral lung ventilation. Patients were divided into a propofol group (n=54) and a sevoflurane group (n=55) according to the anesthesia protocol. Hemodynamic parameters, cerebral oxygen metabolism, anesthesia recovery times, cognitive function, and pulmonary function were assessed. RESULTS: Compared with the propofol gro…

[A fatal case of acute occupational organic fluoride inhalation poisoning].

Organic fluoride compounds are a class of chemical raw materials containing fluorocarbon bonds, primarily classified into fluorinated alkanes and fluorinated olefins. Short-term high-concentration inhalation can lead to acute lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and rapidly progressive pulmonary fibrosis, with persistently high clinical mortality rates. This study summarizes the clinical characteristics, treatment experience, and prognostic factors of acute occupational inhalation poisoning by mixed organic fluoride gases to provide reference for similar case management. A …

Cyfendus for Postexposure Prophylaxis after Inhalation Anthrax Exposures in Wyoming.

AbstractAnthrax is a zoonotic disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis that can lead to severe illness and death. Although human infections are rare in the United States, outbreaks are common in U.S. livestock. In August 2024, an anthrax outbreak among cattle in Wyoming resulted in multiple human exposures. This report describes the use of postexposure prophylaxis among 13 individuals identified with potential exposure.

Bronchopleural fistula secondary to smoke inhalation injury: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Bronchopleural fistula is a rare and severe condition characterized by an abnormal connection between the bronchial tree and pleural space, often leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Although typically resulting from surgical procedures, trauma, or pulmonary infections, bronchopleural fistula caused by smoke inhalation injury is exceptionally uncommon. Smoke inhalation can lead to extensive thermal and chemical damage to the respiratory tract, increasing the risk of infection and necrotic tissue changes that can complicate recovery. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case o…

Pneumothorax induced by cocaine inhalation revealing bronchiectasis with bullous emphysema.

Cocaine inhalation is a known cause of various pulmonary complications, both acute and chronic, including spontaneous pneumothorax, which may be exacerbated by unrecognized underlying lung diseases such as bronchiectasis or emphysema. We report the case of a 33-year-old man with a history of chronic cocaine use who presented to the emergency department with dyspnea and right-sided chest pain. Imaging revealed a right-sided tension pneumothorax associated with bronchiectatic changes and bullous emphysema, likely secondary to previous pulmonary tuberculosis. The patient was treated conservativel…
