Soluble interleukin 2 receptor (SIL-2R) and interleukin 1-B (IL-1B) levels in peripheral blood were assayed by enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent method in 25 patients with Behçet's disease and in 20 healthy controls. Eighteen patients suffered from active Behçet's disease and 6 patients had severe disease manifestations. Gross cystic breast disease is a common benign disease which may be associated with an increased risk for breast cancer. Breast cyst fluid (BCF) contains many steroids, peptide growth factors and proteins. We have now identified interleukin-1 (IL-1) and IL-6 in BCF by specific radioimmunoassays. We investigated the effects of B cell stimulatory factor 2/interleukin 6 (BSF-2/IL-6) on the development of murine hemopoietic progenitors using serum-containing culture and serum-free culture. In serum-containing culture, BSF-2 mainly supported multipotential blast cell colonies from spleen cells of normal and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-treated mice.
