What is the frequency of anatomical variations and pathological findings in maxillary sinuses among patients subjected to maxillofacial cone beam computed tomography? A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: When considering dental implant rehabilitation in atrophic posterior sectors, the maxillary sinuses must be evaluated in detail. … mucosal thickening of the maxillary sinus should be regarded as pathological, and the definition of maxillary sinusitis moreover varies greatly in the scientific literature. In this regard, international consensus is required in relation to these concepts, with a clear distinction between healthy and diseased maxillary sinuses.

GADNN: a revolutionary hybrid deep learning neural network for age and sex determination utilizing cone beam computed tomography images of maxillary and frontal sinuses.

INTRODUCTION: The determination of identity factors such as age and sex has gained significance in both criminal and civil cases. Paranasal sinuses like frontal and maxillary sinuses, are resistant to trauma and can aid profiling. We developed a deep learning (DL) model optimized by an evolutionary algorithm (genetic algorithm/GA) to determine sex and age using paranasal sinus parameters based on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: Two hundred and forty CBCT images (including 129 females and 111 males, aged 18-52) were included in this study. CBCT images were captured using the New

Occult peri-implant oroantral fistulae: posterior maxillary peri-implantitis/sinusitis of zygomatic or dental implant origin. Treatment and prevention with bone morphogenetic protein-2/absorbable collagen sponge sinus grafting.

Sinus floor grafting with bone morphogenetic protein-2 for transsinus implant placement or as a salvage technique for sinus-involved peri-implantitis has been found to be successful. Transsinus implants for All-on-Four treatment, zygomatic implants including quad zygomatics, and infected transsinus implants underwent peri-implant grafting, which was found to seal off the sinus cavity from the oral cavity in an effort to prevent or treat sinusitis/peri-implantitis.

Rhinosinusitis in oral medicine and dentistry.

Rhinosinusitis is a very common condition which is normally readily recognizable. Given the intimate anatomic relationship between the antrum and the posterior maxillary teeth, maxillary sinusitis can present as odontalgia. Distinguishing between odontogenic orofacial pain and pain associated with maxillary sinusitis is important to prevent unnecessary dental intervention and to direct patients to medical colleagues. Conversely, odontogenic infection can spread to involve the antrum, termed odontogenic sinusitis, or maxillary sinusitis of dental origin. Odontogenic sinusitis accounts for about…

Odontogenic infection mimicking antral polyps.

Odontogenic infections can extend into the maxillary sinus and produce sinusitis that mimics other pathoses. Infection of odontogenic origin should be considered in the differential diagnosis of maxillary sinusitis. Sinusitis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of maxillary posterior teeth with acute or chronic symptoms.

Sinusitis and oroantral fistula in patients with bisphosphonate-associated necrosis of the maxilla.

BACKGROUND: The management of bisphosphonate related necrosis of the jaw has become clinical routine. While approximately two thirds of the lesions are in the mandible, one third is located in the maxilla. In 40-50 % of maxillary necrosis the maxillary sinus is involved, leading to maxillary sinusitis and oro-antral communications. METHODS: This retrospective single center study includes all patients with diagnosis of BP-ONJ of the maxilla and concomitant maxillary sinusitis. The information collected includes age, gender, primary disease, bisphosphonate intake, involving type of bisphosphona…

Maxillary sinus development in patients with cleft palates as compared to those with normal palates.

Maxillary sinusitis appears to be more prevalent in the cleft palate population than in the normal population. The increase in sinusitis may be due to the fact that the maxillary sinus develops differently embryonically in cleft palate patients than in those patients with normal palates. A double blind study was done by measuring the maxillary sinus cephalometric x-rays in cleft palate patients and then comparing them to patients with normally developed palates. The groups studied were 3 months to 20 years of age. It was concluded that in each of these groups there was no significant differenc…
