Allostatic Load and Severe Clinical Phenotypes in Major Depressive Disorder: A Cross-Sectional Statistical Mediation Analysis of Perceived Stress, Cognitive Impairment, and Suicidal Ideation.

BACKGROUND: Perceived stress is associated with adverse clinical features of major depressive disorder (MDD), but the role of multisystem physiological dysregulation remains uncertain. We examined whether allostatic load (AL) was statistically associated with the relationship between perceived stress and cognitive impairment or severe suicidal ideation. METHODS: This retrospective, cross-sectional electronic medical record study included 385 adults with DSM-5 MDD assessed within a single three-day index window. Perceived stress was measured with the 14-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14), an

High-dimensional mediation analysis to elucidate the role of metabolites in the association between PFAS exposure and reduced SARS-CoV-2 IgG in pregnancy.

We previously found that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) mixture exposure is inversely associated with SARS-CoV-2 IgG (IgG) antibody levels in pregnant individuals. Here, we aim to identify metabolites mediating this relationship to elucidate the underlying biological pathways. This cross-sectional study included 59 pregnant participants from a US-based pregnancy cohort. Untargeted metabolomic profiling was performed using Liquid Chromatography-High Resolution Sass spectrometry (LC-HRMS), and weighted Quantile Sum (WQS) regression was applied to assess the PFAS and metabolites mixtu

Effects of intimate partner violence and homophobic bullying on ART adherence among young Thai men who have sex with men: a causal mediation analysis.

BACKGROUND: Adherence to antiretroviral therapy is crucial for determining health outcomes and secondary HIV transmission among people living with HIV/AIDS. Young men who have sex with men (YMSM) living with HIV are often challenged by the prevailing experiences of psychosocial stressors such as intimate partner violence and homophobic bullying, which may negatively affect their HIV care engagement. METHODS: This study is the first to utilize a prospective cohort design (N = 185) involving YMSM living with HIV in Thailand. We examined the effects of intimate partner violence and homophobic bu

Direct and Indirect Effect of Guselkumab on Anxiety, Depression, and Quality of Life in Patients with Moderate-to-Severe Plaque Psoriasis: A Mediation Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Treating plaque psoriasis (PsO) with guselkumab (GUS) promotes skin clearance and is associated with improvements in health-related quality of life (HRQoL), anxiety, and depression. It is unclear whether improvements in patient-reported outcomes are due to resolution of skin symptoms or the direct result of GUS treatment. METHODS: Two phase 3, placebo- and active-comparator-controlled studies randomized patients with moderate-to-severe PsO to GUS, placebo (crossing over to GUS at week 16), or adalimumab. Post hoc mediation analyses examined direct and indirect effects of GUS, ve

Combining cash transfers and cognitive behavioral therapy to reduce antisocial behavior in young men: A mediation analysis of a randomized controlled trial in Liberia.

BACKGROUND: Interventions that combine cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with unconditional cash transfers (UCT) reduce the risk of antisocial behavior (ASB), but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. In this paper, we test the role of psychological and cognitive mechanisms in explaining this effect. We assessed the mediating role of executive function, self-control, and time preferences. METHODS: We used data from the Sustainable Transformation of Youth in Liberia, a community-based randomized controlled trial of criminally engaged men. The men were randomized into: Group-1: control (n = 2

Increased Resilience Weakens the Relationship between Perceived Stress and Anxiety on Sleep Quality: A Moderated Mediation Analysis of Higher Education Students from 7 Countries.

High levels of perceived stress and anxiety among university students are a global concern and are known to negatively influence sleep. However, few studies have explored how stress response styles, like psychological resilience and rumination, might alter these relationships. Using validated tools, perceived stress, anxiety, stress response styles, and sleep behaviors of undergraduate and graduate students from seven countries during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic were characterized in order to examine the relationships between these factors using mediation and moderation analyses.
