PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper was to determine the architecture of the collagen fibers of the peripapillary sclera, the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and Henle's fiber layer in vivo in 3D using polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT).

PURPOSE: In cases of optic disc swelling, segmentation of projected retinal blood vessels from optical coherence tomography (OCT) volumes is challenging due to swelling-based shadowing artifacts. BACKGROUND: Optic disc melanocytoma (ODMC) was a benign pigmented intraocular tumor with the rare potential malignant transformation. This study was designed to evaluate tumor vasculature with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in ODMC.
METHODS: Eyes of healthy individuals in a control group and of patients with ODMC were imaged by OCTA systems operating at 840 nm wavelengths and examined. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the pathogenesis of disc hemorrhage in glaucoma, including mechanical and ischemic theories. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) aids in the diagnosis and long-term monitoring of various ocular diseases, including glaucoma. Initially, the retinal nerve fiber layer was the only OCT structural parameter used in glaucoma. Subsequent research has resulted in more retinal and optic nerve head parameters. In addition, OCT is being investigated for its ability to assess ocular hemodynamics. Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy is based on the lesion of blood supply to the optic nerve head. The disease presents decrease of visual acuity and altitudinal field defects with optic dics oedema in ophthalmoscopic view, which progresses in optic atrophy. Anatomy, pathogenesis, causes, clinical picture and management are discussed. 20% of patients from the group treated with vasodilatants and 50% of those treated with corticosteroids improved their visual acuity.

Colobomata of the optic disc result from failure of closure of the most anterior portion of the optic stalk. Therefore the great majority of these defects are found at the six o'clock position in the region of the embryonic defect. The authors examined 61 patients with optic nerve coloboma from 1972 to 1983. The clinical data of these patients are given. It was remarkable that the optic nerve colobomata occurred in combination with the same systemic and 'midline'-defects that are often seen in combination with optic nerve hypoplasia.

The fluctuation of pallor with increasing IOP could be due to either insufficient reliability of the method or to an unrecognized pulsating phenomenon. A better arrangement should eliminate imperfection of the method. Coupling the release with the ECG should reveal a relationship to the arterial pulse rate. Neither condition could be demonstrated as the reason for the fluctuation. The connection of the fluctuation and its possible relationship to central venous pressure is discussed. The margin of error is shown, which is 9% on average.

A central retinal artery occlusion occurred in the left eye of a 25-year-old woman with migraine and bilateral intrapapillary drusen. An extensive investigation failed to establish the presence of any systemic disease or vasculopathy. Eight years later she had a central retinal artery occlusion in her right eye. Optic disk drusen and migraine may have combined to produce this patient's bilateral visual loss consequent to retinal vaso-occlusion.

A young adult demonstrated a spontaneous vitreous hemorrhage in an eye which harbored two retinal arterial loops, with bleeding originating in the area of the larger loop. These congenital vascular anomalies characteristically originate on the optic disk and terminate by anastomosing with or forming a retinal vessel. Although uncommon, congenital retinal arterial loops can no longer be thought innocuous and must be considered when decreased visual acuity occurs.
