Muco-Adhesive Hydrogels-Based Exosome Delivery for Periodontal Tissue Regeneration and Inflammation Reduction: A Review.

This review highlights the potential of muco-adhesive hydrogel-based exosome delivery vehicles for the regeneration of periodontal tissue and the reduction of inflammation in periodontitis. Exosomes, mainly produced from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), represent nano-sized vesicles loaded with bioactive molecules that can stimulate tissue repair and modulate inflammatory pathways. The review provides a thorough view for the synthesis of the in vitro, in vivo and clinical-pilot studies on exosome-loaded muco-adhesive hydrogels, encompassing the physicochemical characterization, exosome delivery

LncRNA in periodontal tissue-derived cells on osteogenic differentiation in the periodontitis field.

OBJECTIVE: Periodontitis can lead to the destruction of periodontal tissues and potentially tooth loss. Numerous periodontal tissue-derived cells display osteogenic differentiation potential. The presence of differentially expressed long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in these cells indicate their ability to regulate the process of osteogenic differentiation. We aim to elucidate the various lncRNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms in the osteogenic differentiation of periodontal tissue-derived cells in the field of periodontitis at epigenetic modification, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional lev

Management of Apico-marginal Defects With Endodontic Microsurgery and Guided Tissue Regeneration: A Report of Thirteen Cases.

The loss of periodontal tissue support and vertical buccal bone loss in apico-marginal defects can often be mistaken for features indicative of vertical root fractures and this study reports thirteen cases with persistent symptomatic apical periodontitis, apico-marginal defects, and large periapical lesions that were managed with endodontic microsurgery in conjunction with bone grafts and barrier placements with a follow-up period of up to 9 years. At the recall sessions, all cases were asymptomatic with radiographical success with only 2 cases exhibiting residual apical radiolucency, but with

Interactions between Orthodontic Treatment and Gingival Tissue.

In recent years, as the number of adults seeking orthodontic treatment has increased, so too has the number of periodontal tissue problems, particularly regarding the impact on periodontal tissue of receiving orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment improves the occlusion and appearance of teeth by moving the teeth appropriately. These movements have a significant impact on the interactions between the teeth and periodontal tissues. Orthodontic treatment can also recover tooth alignment for patients with tooth displacement caused by periodontitis; however, orthodontic treatment also often

Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Current Literature and Role in Periodontal Regeneration.

Periodontal disease can cause irreversible damage to tooth-supporting tissues such as the root cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone, eventually leading to tooth loss. While standard periodontal treatments are usually helpful in reducing disease progression, they cannot repair or replace lost periodontal tissue. Periodontal regeneration has been demonstrated to be beneficial in treating intraosseous and furcation defects to varied degrees. Cell-based treatment for periodontal regeneration will become more efficient and predictable as tissue engineering and progenitor cell biology a

[Research progress on the role of extracellular vesicles in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic periodontitis].

Chronic periodontitis is a disease of periodontal supporting tissue infection caused by various causes. It was believed that the oral bacteria were the initiator of chronic periodontitis, and the host immune factors would affect the developing process and outcome of periodontitis, although the specific regulatory mechanism was not completely clear. Extracellular vesicles, subcellular components produced by cell paracrine, may carry a variety of genetic information to mediate intercellular communication. Extracellular vesicles have been found to be closely related to tumors and cardiovascular,

NEW APPROACHES TO THE TREATMENT OF PERIIMPLANTITIS (REVIEW).

Implant therapy, a modern treatment option for completely and partially edentulous patients. However, numerous clinical studies indicate a sufficiently large number (9-20%) of the failure rate of implants. The achievement of osseointegration depends on many factors, such as a suitable host, alteration in bone metabolism, hormone balance, smoking habits, and local conditions (quantity and quality of bone, biocompatible materials, traumatic surgical technique, occlusal conditions, quality of dental implants, and corrosion of the metal of implants, thoroughness of surgery and healing time). As ca

Fibre guiding scaffolds for periodontal tissue engineering.

The periodontium is a highly hierarchically organized organ composed of gingiva, alveolar bone, periodontal ligament and cementum. Periodontitis leads to the destruction of hard and soft tissues ultimately leading to a loss of the teeth supporting apparatus. Current treatments are capable of limiting the disease progression; however, true regeneration, characterized by perpendicularly oriented periodontal ligament fibre attachment to cementum on the root surface remains challenging. Tissue engineering approaches have been developed to enhance regeneration via micro-engineered topographical fea…

Root perforations: aetiology, management strategies and outcomes. The hole truth.

The purpose of this clinical article is to emphasise that root perforations can occur both during and after endodontic treatment. These reduce the chance of a successful treatment outcome and can jeopardise the survival of the tooth. The aetiology and diagnosis of root perforations are described. The article also focusses on the non-surgical and surgical management of root perforations and describes how selection of the appropriate treatment depends on an accurate diagnosis.

CONCLUSIONS: Dental ankylosis was part of the normal development of the stem mammal periodontium for millions of years prior to the evolution of a permanent gomphosis in mammals. Mammals may have evolved a permanent gomphosis by delaying the processes that produced dental ankylosis in stem mammals. Pathological ankylosis may represent a reversi …

Dental Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Inflamed Microenvironment: Potentials and Challenges for Regeneration.

Adult dental mesenchymal stem cells (DMSCs) are multi-potent stem cells that are involved in dental tissue repair and regeneration. DMSCs are able to differentiate into multiple lineages, including odontogenic, osteogenic, neurogenic, adipogenic, chondrogenic, hepatogenic lineages and insulinproducing cells. However, the DMSCs from functioning, impacted or exfoliated teeth may not be available when needed. Recently, DMSCs have been found in pulpal, periapical and periodontal tissue with inflammation from deciduous and immature/mature permanent teeth. DMSCs from inflamed tissue (iDMSCs) possess

[Effect of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on proliferation of the cells derived from the root resorbing tissue of human deciduous teeth].

The resorption of the roots of deciduous teeth is a physiological phenomenon. Many morphological and histological investigations of the root resorption have been reported. However little biochemical data concerning systemic factors in it are available. In this study, cell culture derived from the root resorbing tissue of human deciduous teeth was tried and the effect of EGF on that cell was examined. The dissected root resorbing tissue from human deciduous teeth was cultured in a medium containing 10% fetal calf serum in a humidified incubator at an atmosphere of 5% CO2 in air at 37 degrees C.

[Histopathological observation of periodontal tissue by tipping movement toward the hydroxyapatite-packed socket].

Tipping movement in orthodontic therapy, which is often performed even in the absence of the adjacent tooth, is represented by the movement following tooth extraction. Such tipping movement in the absence of the adjacent tooth depends not only upon the magnitude of orthodontic force as classified into Stoner 4D, but also upon the condition of the extracted wounds. To evaluate the clinical applicability of HAp-packing used in combination with tipping movement, histopathological investigation was performed in the periodontal tissue with tipping movement toward the adjacent to HAp-packed socket.

Juvenile periodontitis. Some microbiological, histopathological and clinical characteristics.

The microflora of periodontal pockets and some histopathological characteristics of adjacent tissues from individuals with clinical signs of juvenile periodontitis were studied. Adult individuals with ordinary, rapidly advancing periodontitis served as controls. All of the patients had been referred for specialist treatment. Using criteria defined by Baer (19z1), the patients were assigned to one juvenile periodontitis (eight patients), one post-juvenile periodontitis (seven patients) and one adult periodontitis group (seven patients). Only lesions around the first molars and central incisors
