In this study, we describe the antimycobacterial activity of two pigments, violacein, a purple violet pigment from Janthinobacterium sp. Ant5-2 (J-PVP), and flexirubin, a yellow-orange pigment from Flavobacterium sp. Ant342 (F-YOP). Hamycin incorporated into liposomes containing phosphatidylcholine (SPC) and phosphatidic acid (PA) had reduced toxicity and an enhanced antifungal activity in experimental aspergillosis in balb/c mice. Incorporation of cholesterol into liposomes led to a dose dependent decrease in the toxicity of hamycin. Fusarium head blight (FHB) caused by Fusarium graminearum is a destructive fungal disease of wheat. Natamycin is a natural polyene macrolide antifungal compound exhibiting broad-spectrum antifungal activity, but its efficacy and mechanism against F. graminearum remain unclear.
