Williams-Beuren syndrome in diverse populations.

Williams-Beuren syndrome (WBS) is a common microdeletion syndrome characterized by a 1.5Mb deletion in 7q11.23. The phenotype of WBS has been well described in populations of European descent with not as much attention given to other ethnicities. In this study, individuals with WBS from diverse populations were assessed clinically and by facial analysis technology. Clinical data and images from 137 individuals with WBS were found in 19 countries with an average age of 11 years and female gender of 45%. The most common clinical phenotype elements were periorbital fullness and intellectual disab

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and Rh factor.

The incidence of carriers of the Gd(-) gene and the Rh(+) and Rh(-) alleles was studied in 10 342 Bulgarian individuals living in 306 villages in 5 districts at different altitudes above the sea level. The results showed that the presence of the Gd(-) gene is considerably less frequent in Rh(-) than in Rh(+) individuals. In populations with a high frequency of G6PD deficiency the frequency of the Rh(-) allele is low.

Resource access and use: Impacts on distal minority stressors for racial and sexual diverse youth in rural and urban contexts.

Sexually and racially diverse (SD) adolescents experience elevated proximal and distal minority stressors that vary across school, community, and policy contexts. Limited research has examined how access to and use of LGBTQIA+ supportive structures, such as Gender and Sexualities Alliances (GSAs), LGBTQIA+ community centers, and affirming school staff, shape distal minority stress for racially and sexually diverse youth across geographic settings. Using cross-sectional national sample data of SD adolescents from the Adolescent Stress Experiences Over Time Study (ASETS; N = 1076), this study ap

Disparities in rheumatoid arthritis outcomes for North American Indigenous populations.

Advances in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) management have significantly improved clinical outcomes of this disease; however, some Indigenous North Americans (INA) with RA have not achieved the high rates of treatment success observed in other populations. We review factors contributing to poor long-term outcomes for INA with RA. We conducted a narrative review of studies evaluating RA in INA supplemented with regional administrative health and clinical cohort data on clinical outcomes and health care utilisation. We discuss factors related to conducting research in INA populations including studie

Mental health and legal statuses along the path to citizenship: A qualitative study of minority ethnic urban dwellers in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

BACKGROUND: Given the lack of legal status, stateless persons often live in precarious situations that put them at risk of mental health problems, especially in urban settings. Moreover, pathways to citizenship may involve navigating different legal statuses over a lifetime, posing additional challenges. Yet, research on the nexus between legal status and mental health remains scant. This study examines the factors that influence the mental health of persons with different legal statuses in a Thai urban context. METHODS: This study employed a qualitative design. Data were collected through 47

Ancestry inferences from DNA testing results: The problem of sociogenetic essentialism.

Millions of people have now taken DNA ancestry tests, with many of them looking for information about their origins or even their ethnic identity. However, what these tests can only do is allow for a probabilistic estimate of a person's similarity to a reference group. This is often based on research in population genetics that study human genetic variation by identifying ancestry informative markers, that is, DNA markers that are found more often in one population rather than others. Whereas these markers are not the criteria for membership in a group, they can serve as indicia for it. Howeve

Patterns in Physician Burnout in a Stable-Linked Cohort.

IMPORTANCE: Physician burnout is widely reported to be an increasing problem in the US. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This survey study was conducted in 2017, 2019, and 2021 and involved physician faculty members of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization. [A Meta-analysis on the infection rates on Mycoplasma genitalium in the genitourinary tract of different populations in China].

Objective: Mycoplasma genitalium (Mg) is an opportunity pathogenic microorganism mainly transmitted through sexual contact. In recent years, scholars have paid more attention to Mg infection and pathogenicity. This study was aimed to understand the condition of Mg in the genitourinary tract of different populations in China and provide evidence for further study of its pathogenic characteristics. Methods: Cross-section studies of Mg infection in the Chinese community were searched by China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang digital database, SinoMed, Pubmed, and Web of Science f
