Esthetic views on facial and dental appearance in young adults with treated bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP). A comparison between professional and non-professional evaluators.

The aim of the present study was to make a comparison between the professional and non-professional evaluations concerning the esthetic outcome after the completion of patients who have been treated for bilateral cleft lip and palate. A web-based questionnaire, with 12 photo sets, was answered by 25 orthodontists and 20 young adults who had been treated with orthodontic fixed appliances. They ranked the three first features they noticed when looking at each photo set, and then rated specific variables as being bad, fairly good, good, or excellent. At the end of each set, they had an opportunit

Therapists' Professional Roles in Guided Internet-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Specialized Mental Health Care: Interview and Observational Study With Health Care Professionals.

BACKGROUND: Therapist-guided internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (guided iCBT) is increasingly implemented in routine mental health care to expand access to evidence-based treatments. Although the clinical effectiveness and patient acceptability of guided iCBT for common mental health disorders are well established, less is known about how introducing such digitally mediated interventions reshapes therapists' everyday work practices and professional roles. Existing research has primarily focused on treatment outcomes, service uptake, and organizational implementation challenges, le

Examination of the validity of the Injury-Psychological Readiness to Return to Sport (I-PRRS) scale in male professional football players: A worldwide study of 29 professional teams.

Perceived confidence is an important dimension of an athlete's psychological readiness to return-to-play. However, there is no established and validated tool to evaluate confidence in professional football. This study aimed to provide preliminary evaluation of the internal structure of the Injury-Psychological Readiness to Return-to-Sport scale (I-PRRS) in a cohort of injured male professional footballers. Over an 18-month period, 29 teams from 17 leagues participated. Players sustaining injuries eliciting ≥ 3 weeks' time-loss were recruited. Cross culturally adapted to 4 further languages, th

Protect the Player, Protect the Game: Reflections from Ex-Professional Rugby Union Players on Law Changes, Protective Equipment, and Duty of Care in the Professional Game.

The emphasis of this study was to interview ex-professional male rugby union players (n = 23, mean age 35.5 ± 4.7 years) and discuss concussion management during their careers. In this study, two major themes were identified: (1) the duty of care to professional rugby union players by medical personnel, coaching staff, and owners of professional clubs and (2) the use of protective equipment and law changes to enhance player safety. In total, twenty-three ex-professional rugby union players were interviewed, and the majority (61%) had represented their countries at international test-level rugb

Lymphoedema in Head and Neck Cancer Survivors: Healthcare Professionals' Perspectives.

INTRODUCTION: Improvements in head and neck cancer (HNC) treatment have increased survival rates, resulting in survivors living with side effects, such as head and neck lymphoedema (HNL). We aimed to document healthcare professionals' perceptions of HNL, approaches to managing HNL, and integration of HNL management into routine practice in Australia and New Zealand. METHODS: We conducted an online, 51-item survey between February and October 2024. The survey comprised two main sections: (i) all healthcare professionals working with HNC and HNL; and (ii) only HNL therapists. RESULTS: Particip

AAC opportunity barriers and supports in the country of Georgia: professional perspectives.

Despite the potential benefits of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), individuals who use or may benefit from AAC may encounter opportunity barriers that influence communication participation. Although prior research has examined AAC opportunity barriers, a context-specific examination has not been conducted in the Country of Georgia, an upper-middle-income country with a distinct post-Soviet history and evolving disability-related policies and perceptions. This integrated mixed-methods study investigated AAC-related opportunity barriers and facilitators identified by 55 professi

Legal vulnerability of orthodontists in professional practice: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: In Brazil, the population's easy access to the judicial system exposes healthcare professionals, including orthodontists, to the risk of becoming involved in legal disputes for which they are often inadequately prepared. OBJECTIVE: In this context, the aim of this study was to assess the legal vulnerability of professionals involved in orthodontic practice and to identify factors associated with professional practice. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional observational study was conducted using a previously validated questionnaire administered to 247 professionals engaged

Improving Professional Billing Practices in a Pediatric Hospital Medicine Section.

BACKGROUND: Professional billing translates clinical complexity and physician work into Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes and work relative value units (wRVUs), which inform reimbursement and resource planning. Pediatric hospital medicine (PHM) involves complex, cognitive, and time-intensive care, making accurate documentation and code selection essential. Baseline data in our PHM section suggested underuse of appropriate codes, contributing to undercapture of physician work. We aimed to increase wRVUs per patient-day by 25% over 12 months. METHODS: We conducted a quality improvement

Immense data processing within brain networks in professional gamers.

Internet video games represent complex systems that process large data volumes, requiring cognitive skills. We hypothesized that professional gamers must effectively process a vast amount of information to compete, likely involving altered brain functional connectivity (FC), cortical volumes, and white matter connectivity (FA) within ventral attention network (VAN), dorsal attention network (DAN) and thalamocortical networks (TCN). The study recruited 23 professional gamers and 20 healthy control participants. All participants underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning and cognitive f

Development and validation of the teachers generative AI professional competence scale.

Generative artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping teachers' professional practices, creating new demands for judgment, responsibility, and autonomy in educational decision-making. However, existing measurement tools largely focus on AI literacy, attitudes, or general readiness, leaving a critical gap in assessing how teachers engage with generative AI in professionally meaningful and ethically responsible ways. This study addresses this gap by developing and validating the Teachers' Generative AI Professional Competence Scale, conceptualized as a multidimensional construct comprising ped

Professional Pride During COVID-19 in a Cohort of Healthcare Workers.

We aimed to identify circumstances associated with feelings of pride in healthcare workers (HCWs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. A prospective cohort of Canadian HCWs reported pride-reinforcing events in April 2020 (Phase 1). In spring/summer 2022 (Phase 4), they completed a self-reported retrospective comparison rating of whether they 'now feel more [professional] pride than before the pandemic'. Among 4964 HCWs, 4360 (88%) described pride-reinforcing events in Phase 1; 3926 (79%) rated feeling more professional pride than before the pandemic in Phase 4. Teamwork (34%) and public appreciation
