The Effect of Ozone Therapy on Psoriasis.

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated skin disease in which genetic and environmental factors have a significant role. Olive oil with antioxidant properties is an effective adjunct treatment for skin diseases. Furthermore, ozone by introducing O2 into the bloodstream controls the response of cell-mediated immunity and leads to improve disease. So, the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ozone therapy in the treatment of Psoriasis. Topical therapy of lesions of a man suffering from psoriasis was carried out using ozonate olive oil two times a day and ozone sauna once a week during a mon…

Management of Obesity in Psoriasis Consultations.

INTRODUCTION: Psoriasis and obesity often occur together, with up to 50% of patients with psoriasis being classified as obese. This increases systemic inflammation, cardiovascular risk, and disease severity while reducing the efficacy of biologic treatments. Despite this overlap, dermatology lacks obesity-specific guidance. This review evaluates lifestyle, pharmacological (glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists [GLP-1 RAs] and tirzepatide) and surgical strategies, as well as clinic-level algorithms, to inform dermatological practice. METHODS: We performed a narrative synthesis of epidemiol…

Serum DSDNA is Associated With Psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a recurrent autoimmune disease. No biological factor that is associated with the risk of psoriasis has been definitively identified. The potential role of the immunogen double-stranded (ds)DNA as a trigger of and biomarker for psoriasis warrants exploration. This multicentre case-control study included 3 069 patients with psoriasis and 7 041 healthy controls from 12 regions in China. The associations of the serum dsDNA level with the psoriasis risk and severity were analysed in the overall population. The serum dsDNA level was significantly higher in patients than in controls. Eac…

A Review of Male Genital Psoriasis.

Male genital psoriasis (mGP) is an inflammatory dermatosis affecting the penis and scrotum, a common but significantly under-reported manifestation of psoriasis. Owing to the unique anatomical and microenvironmental characteristics of the male genital region, mGP differs from chronic plaque psoriasis in its clinical presentation, exacerbating factors and therapeutic considerations. Similar to other forms of psoriasis, mGP carries a substantial psychosocial burden. This is amplified by the intimate nature of mGP and its detrimental effects on sexual and interpersonal functioning, which is often…

The Impacts of Seasonal Factors on Psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition driven by immune system dysfunction, genetic predisposition and environmental factors. Patients with psoriasis experience a well-known clinical phenomenon of 'winter severity and summer relief', in which seasonal environmental factors play critical roles in the onset and progression of psoriasis. These factors include temperature, humidity, infection, light exposure and psychological stress. Seasonal changes in temperature and humidity can compromise skin barrier function and exacerbate inflammatory responses, thereby worsening psoriasis sympt…

Psoriasis and Alopecia: Unveiling the Links.

INTRODUCTION: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that may lead to scalp involvement, with a significant impact on patients' quality of life. Although most patients with scalp psoriasis do not experience alopecia, alopecia in the context of psoriasis is a multifaceted issue on which studies are limited. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this review was to investigate different types of alopecia in psoriasis and the potential mechanisms. METHODS: A thorough literature review was performed, focusing on the relationship between psoriasis and alopecia areata (AA), drug-induced alopecia, and pso…

An update on topical therapies for psoriasis.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Topical therapies are a mainstay of treatment for mild psoriasis and may be a useful adjunct in treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis. This review summarizes recent advances in topical therapies for psoriasis and currently available treatments. RECENT FINDINGS: Topical aryl hydrocarbon receptor modulators (tapinarof) and topical phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors (roflumilast) have been proven effective in randomized controlled trials for psoriasis. Although topical JAK inhibitors have also been studied, none are currently licensed for treatment of psoriasis. Topical cortic…
