Flood Response in Rural Indonesia Implementing the World Health Organization Emergency Medical Team Minimum Data Set - Disaster Report.

Indonesia experiences recurrent natural disasters that impose substantial strain on its health system, with annual flooding affecting rural communities such as Sitiarjo Sumbermanjing Wetan. Despite these recurring events, Indonesia has not systematically adopted the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Minimum Data Set (MDS) for standardized disaster medical reporting, thereby limiting data integration and evidence-based policy development. This disaster report describes the operational patterns, clinical demographics, and syndromic distribution captured by the WHO EMT

Health Care Access, Preventive Care, and Affordability Among Rural Adults With Cardiometabolic Conditions: Medicare Advantage Versus Traditional Medicare.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular mortality has worsened among rural adults compared with urban counterparts over recent decades. Medicare Advantage (MA) enrollment is increasing in rural areas, yet its impact on access and affordability for high-risk cardiovascular populations remains unclear. This study evaluated differences in health care access, preventive care, and affordability barriers between rural adults with cardiometabolic conditions enrolled in MA versus traditional Medicare. METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was performed using 2021 to 2022 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey data. Mu

Enhancing Rural Veteran Access to Specialty Pelvic Health Rehabilitation Through Mentorship and a Novel Model of Care Coordination.

INTRODUCTION: Pelvic health rehabilitation (PHR) treats pelvic floor disorders that result in pain, incontinence, and sexual dysfunction. Within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), few clinicians are trained to provide PHR, particularly in rural areas. We developed and implemented 2 programs: a mentorship program to increase the PHR workforce and a virtual Care Navigator program to increase direct PHR access. Our aims were to describe the PHR project and initial program evaluation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinicians across VHA were eligible to apply for the mentorship program, with prior

Non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) variability in rural Himalayan atmospheres: impacts on ozone, secondary organic aerosols, and human health.

This study presents the first year-long observations (January 2021-June 2022) of 17 non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) at a high-altitude rural site in the Himalayas (Munsyari: 2200 m a.m.s.l.), a tourist destination influenced by nearby emission sources. Total NMHCs exhibited seasonal variability, with the lowest levels in winter and summer- monsoon (159.5-174.5 ppbC) and the highest levels in spring and autumn (174.5-197.8 ppbC). Aromatic hydrocarbons dominated the NMHC composition throughout the year, contributing about 85-89% of the total NMHCs. This seasonal variability suggests the combine

Enhancing postoperative care in rural Uganda: evaluating a Recovery@Home mobile health program's impact on ambulatory surgery outcomes.

BACKGROUND: In low- and middle-income countries, postoperative care for basic surgeries, such as hernia repairs, soft tissue excisions, and low-acuity gynecologic surgeries often involves prolonged hospitalization due to concerns about potential postoperative complications at home. An ambulatory surgical center in rural Uganda developed Recovery@Home, a mobile health program enabling home-based recovery with nurse-led monitoring/interventions. METHODS: Recovery@Home uses a mobile app and visiting nurses for postoperative assessment and intervention through structured phone calls on postoperat

Informing mobile health strategies: Study of mobile phone ownership among rural women for breast cancer control in Ghana.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) screening uptake remains low among women in rural Ghana because of structural and informational barriers. Understanding mobile phone ownership, use, and willingness to receive short message service (SMS) messages is essential for designing SMS-based mobile health interventions to improve BC awareness and uptake of clinical breast examinations. OBJECTIVE: To examine mobile phone ownership, usage patterns, and willingness to receive SMS-based BC information among women in rural Ghana to inform the development of a future SMS-based mobile health intervention. Facilitation of Health Plan-Clinic Partnerships to Improve Colorectal Cancer Screening for Rural Medicaid Enrollees: A Qualitative Study.

PURPOSE: Mailed fecal immunochemical test (FIT) and patient navigation for follow-up colonoscopy have been shown to increase colorectal cancer (CRC) screening rates, but implementation barriers exist in rural settings. Partnerships between clinics and Medicaid health plans may address these barriers. In a large pragmatic randomized trial, we conducted a qualitative analysis to identify ways in which practice facilitation supported the implementation of a partnered health plan-clinic intervention of mailed FIT and patient navigation to improve CRC screening among rural Medicaid enrollees. Accuracy of self-reported vaccination status using surveys in safety-net, integrated and rural health systems in Colorado.

BACKGROUND: Vaccination surveys contribute to understanding coverage among adults, but recent information on self-report accuracy is limited. We aimed to validate vaccination status reported by survey for five adult vaccines. METHODS: Between June 2021 and April 2022, we conducted a survey in three Colorado health systems (safety-net, integrated, rural). We sampled 13,667 adults aged ≥19 years. All were assessed for influenza and tetanus vaccination status; those aged 19-45 years were assessed for HPV, those aged ≥50 years were assessed for zoster, and those aged ≥65 years were assessed for p

Understanding and Navigating the Unique Barriers Rural Primary Care Settings Face when Implementing Collaborative Care for Mental Health.

Rural primary care (RPC) clinics may face unique barriers to implementing the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM). We used mixed methods to explore RPC staff and practice facilitator (PF) perspectives on CoCM implementation. PFs reported on barriers and facilitators experienced after each monthly meeting with clinics (n = 459 surveys across 23 clinics). Data were analyzed descriptively and informed qualitative interviews with a purposive sample (n = 11) of clinic staff and PFs. Interviews were analyzed using Rapid Assessment Process and triangulated with quantitative data. The most prominent barri
