Genome‑wide identification of NAC transcription factor family members and functional characterization of FaNAC7‑Fve6 in low‑temperature tolerance via the ROS scavenging pathway in Fragaria × ananassa.

NAC transcription factors are key regulators of plant growth and stress responses, but their role in low-temperature tolerance of octoploid strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) remains largely unexplored. In particular, little is known about the evolutionary characteristics of the NAC gene family in this species or the molecular mechanisms by which these genes mediate low-temperature stress responses. Here, we identified 371 FaNAC genes unevenly distributed across 28 chromosomes, with the Fve subgenome being the most abundant. Members of the same subgroup share highly conserved gene structures and

Bioremediation of Produced Water by a Polyextremophilic, Heavy-Metal-Resistant Modicisalibacter sp. Strain Wilcox.

Produced water (PW), generated during oil and gas extraction, is a complex wastewater characterized by high salinity, hydrocarbons, and heavy metals, making treatment and beneficial reuse challenging. Bioremediation offers a sustainable treatment alternative, but the extreme physicochemical conditions of PW inhibit the growth and activity of most conventional microorganisms. This study evaluates the bioremediation potential and heavy metal tolerance mechanisms of the halophile, Modicisalibacter sp. strain Wilcox, isolated from PW. We examined its growth and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and

Seed priming with calcium chloride enhances stress tolerance in rice seedlings.

Calcium is a crucial second messenger in plant cells and contributes to plant resistance against biotic and abiotic stress. Plant defense priming with natural or synthetic compounds leads to quicker and stronger resistance responses. However, whether pretreatment of plant seeds with calcium could improve their resistance to stress remains poorly understood. In this study, we showed that rice seedlings grown from calcium chloride (CaCl2)-pretreated seeds displayed enhanced resistance to the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae and the rice bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzae (Xoo).

Overexpression of MoSM1, encoding for an immunity-inducing protein from Magnaporthe oryzae, in rice confers broad-spectrum resistance against fungal and bacterial diseases.

Potential of MoSM1, encoding for a cerato-platanin protein from Magnaporthe oryzae, in improvement of rice disease resistance was examined. Transient expression of MoSM1 in rice leaves initiated hypersensitive response and upregulated expression of defense genes. When transiently expressed in tobacco leaves, MoSM1 targeted to plasma membrane. The MoSM1-overexpressing (MoSM1-OE) transgenic rice lines showed an improved resistance, as revealed by the reduced disease severity and decreased in planta pathogen growth, against 2 strains belonging to two different races of M. oryzae, causing blast di

Nitroxyl (HNO) reduces endothelial and monocyte activation and promotes M2 macrophage polarization.

Nitroxyl anion (HNO) donors are currently being assessed for their therapeutic utility in several cardiovascular disorders including heart failure. Here, we examine their effect on factors that precede atherosclerosis including endothelial cell and monocyte activation, leucocyte adhesion to the endothelium and macrophage polarization. Similar to the NO donor glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), the HNO donors Angeli's salt (AS) and isopropylamine NONOate (IPA/NO) decreased leucocyte adhesion to activated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and mouse isolated aorta. This reduction in adhesion

Polyamine and tyramine involvement in NaCl-induced improvement of Cd resistance in the halophyte Inula chrithmoides L.

The aim of the present work was to analyze the impact of salinity on the plant response to Cd toxicity in the Mediterranean halophyte species Inula crithmoides. For this purpose, cuttings were cultivated hydroponically during 21d in the presence of 0, 25 or 50μM CdCl2 combined or not with 0, 100, 200 and 400mM NaCl. The obtained data demonstrated that, in the absence of Cd, NaCl strongly increased plant growth (the maximal dry weight being observed at 100mM) and enhanced the Na+/K+ ratio in the shoot. Cd alone strongly affected plant growth in this halophyte. However, in Cd-treated plants, NaC

Enantioselective copper-catalyzed B-H bond insertion reaction of α-diazo phosphonates to access chiral α-boryl phosphonates.

Chiral phosphorus-containing compounds find applications across various fields, including asymmetric catalysis, medicinal chemistry, and materials science. Despite the abundance of reported highly enantioselective methods for synthesizing various chiral phosphorus compounds, the enantioselective synthesis of α-boryl phosphorus compounds still remains an unknown territory. Here, we report a method for the construction of chiral α-boryl phosphates by asymmetric B-H insertion reaction using α-diazo phosphates as carbene precursors, cheap and readily available copper salt as the catalyst and chira

Do We Need Hormonal Screening In Patients With Subcentimeter Pituitary Microadenomas?

A 54-year-old woman came to our endocrinology clinics presenting with upper and lower extremity paresthesia, salt cravings, episodes of hypotension, fatigue and a long term history of depression. Physical exam was unremarkable. Cervical and brain MRI ordered by her neurologist three years ago revealed sella and pituitary normal in size, stable very small 3 mm pituitary incidentaloma and mild disc bulging. Basal pituitary hormonal screening showed low cortisol and ACTH levels. Insulin Tolerance Test and Glucagon Stimulation Test confirmed secondary ACTH deficiency with concomitant GH deficiency

Synthesis of Furans via Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Cyclization of Acrylic Acids with α-Diazocarbonyl Compounds.

An efficient protocol for the synthesis of furans through Rh(III)-catalyzed vinyl C-H activation from acrylic acids and α-diazocarbonyl compounds has been developed. The reaction features broad functional group tolerance and affords a series of furans in moderate to good yields. Moreover, no additives such as copper or silver salts are required. Some control experiments are performed to give insight into the mechanism of this cascade transformation and the decarbonylation process is involved in the formation of the furan product.

Effects of Molybdenum Supplementation in the Form of Ammonium and Sodium Salts on Trophoblast Cell Physiology and Gene Expression In Vitro.

Molybdenum is an essential trace element sourced during pregnancy from the maternal diet. Studies regarding molybdenum have primarily focused on overexposure in animal and cell culture studies. The effects of molybdenum supplementation on placental function are unknown. An immortalised trophoblast cell line was used to examine the placental cellular response to molybdenum in its bioavailable form as molybdate. Cells of the extravillous trophoblast first-trimester cell line HTR8-SVneo were cultured in complete cell media in the presence of 10 nM to 1 mM of ammonium molybdate or sodium molybdate

Root exudates from citrus plants subjected to abiotic stress conditions have a positive effect on rhizobacteria.

Plants are constantly releasing root exudates to the rhizosphere. These compounds are responsible for different (positive or negative) interactions with other organisms, including plants, fungi or bacteria. In this work, the effect of root exudates obtained from in vitro cultured citrus plants on two rhizobacteria (Pseudomonas putida KT2440 and Novosphingobium sp. HR1a) was evaluated. Root exudates were obtained from two citrus genotypes differing in their sensitivity to salt and heat stress and differentially affected the growth of both rhizobacteria. Root exudates from salt-stressed plants o

Under salt stress, quinoa stomatal guard cells control transpiration in an ABA-primed manner.

Stomatal guard cells, located at the interface between the leaf and the atmosphere, play a key role in transpiration control and photosynthetic CO2 uptake. Halophytes like Chenopodium quinoa tolerate high soil salinity, but the mechanisms governing guard cell responses to salinity stress in relation to the associated epidermal bladder cells (EBCs) remain unknown. In this study, responses of C. quinoa guard cells under salinity stress and external ABA application were analyzed using RNA profiling and voltage-clamp-based electrophysiology. Under salt stress, guard cell RNA profiles reported the
