Fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) is the pathogen causing hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HHS) in broilers. Since June 2015, it has emerged as one of the leading causes of economic losses in the poultry industry in China. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have decreased the rates of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in children. We report the complete genome sequence of Streptococcus pneumoniae EF3030, a serotype 19F isolate that colonizes the nasopharynx of mice while being mostly noninvasive. Such attributes make this strain highly attractive in pneumococcal carriage studies. The availability of its complete genomic sequence is likely to advance studies in the field.

In the present study, the pathogenicity of fowl adenovirus (FAdV) serotype 4 strain HB1501 was systematically determined by using different doses and routes of inoculation in chickens and assessed the immune efficacy induced by fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) strain SB15 in a vaccination trial. Sepsis remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in newborns especially in the developing countries. Salmonellosis, a global public health problem is common in tropical countries. However Salmonella enterica serotype Paratyphi B causing neonatal sepsis is rare and the survival depends on high index of suspicion and appropriate empiric therapy. We here report a case of sepsis neonatorum due to Salmonella enterica serotype Paratyphi B in a four day old baby girl. Salmonella infections should be considered in the differential diagnosis of neonatal sepsis, especially in endemic areas.
