Evaluated a 15-month social support intervention for mothers of children with JRA. Five mentors (mothers of young adults who have had JRA since childhood) were linked to mothers of children with JRA ages 2 to 11 for purposes of enhancing specific types of social support and overall mental health. Electrodiagnostic examination (EDX) can be helpful in assessing patients with hysteria-conversion reaction (H-CR) and malingering. The EDX with both H-CR and malingering are identical, but the electromyographer usually distinguishes one from another based on how the patient responds to the situation. EDX not only can demonstrate that symptoms are probably nonorganic in nature, but also can show that symptoms attributed clinically to H-CR and malingering actually have an organic basis.

Mothers and fathers of 29 girls with Rett syndrome provided data about their levels of parenting stress, marital adjustment, and family functioning. This study deals with four major characteristics that directly affect motivation and attitude of patients at risk for infective endocarditis (IE) toward oro-dental health. Much of what has been written about how psychiatric hospitals change a patient's self-image has been written from the perspective of the hospital and related social forces. In a community survey of the elderly in Hobart, persons who lived alone were compared to those who lived with others. Those who lived alone were more often widows and had had more education. They had markedly fewer close relationships but as much other social interaction.
