Five cases of intestinal endometriosis presented with infertility and pelvic pain. Rectal bleeding occurred in two patients and diarrhea in one. A diagnosis was achieved with a barium enema study and colonoscopy. All the patients had pelvic endometriosis as documented by laparoscopy. Endometriosis was present in the sigmoid colon in three patients and in the cecum in one; it was pericecal in the fifth. Bowel resection and pathologic study are necessary to relieve the symptoms and avoid neglecting a malignant tumor or other lesions.

We report a case of solitary splenic metastasis after surgery for colon cancer. 75-year-old woman who underwent sigmoidectomy for sigmoid colon cancer. After undergoing adjuvant CAPOX therapy, the splenic mass was identified 18 months postoperatively. Postoperative chemotherapy has been resumed, and the patient is under observation. Splenic metastasis of malignant tumors is considered relatively rare. There are scattered reports indicating the effectiveness of resection for isolated splenic metastasis, but adjuvant therapy postoperatively is considered necessary.

An octogenarian man complaining of bloody stool was referred to our hospital. A digital examination, abdominal enhanced CT and endoscopy led to a diagnosis of intussusception due to rectosigmoid colon cancer, but he was not suffering from bowel obstruction. An elective laparoscopic Hartmann's operation was performed after reduction by transanal insertion of a circular sizer. It may be difficult to reduce an intussusception induced by rectal cancer. Of 734 patients with colorectal cancer operated on during the past 21 years, 142 had carcinoma of the sigmoid colon. Curative resections were performed in 103 patients and non-curative resections in 22, the resection rate being 88.0%. Five patients with intestinal endometriosis are presented. Two patients had appendiceal involvement, and 3 with sigmoid colon involvement presented with clinical features indistinguishable from carcinoma of the colon. It is important for surgeons to be aware of the possibility of intestinal endometriosis when treating patients with polypoidal colonic masses, strictures of the pelvic colon and atypical rectal bleeding.
