BACKGROUND: In our center, childhood nephrotic syndrome (NS) had been reported for over a decade to be steroid sensitive contrary to reports in other parts of Nigeria. The purpose of this study was to determine if there are changes in presentation and response to steroids, with reviews of the literature on NS.
METHODS: Analysis of 28 patients seen at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, from 1999-2004 with the diagnosis of NS was performed.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives were to assess the beneficial and harmful effects of anabolic-androgenic steroids for alcoholic liver disease.
METHODS: The Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group Controlled Trials Register, The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and full text searches were combined. Only randomized clinical trials studying patients with alcoholic liver disease were included. Corticosteroids were successfully used to treat a 66-year-old man with retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) and previously diagnosed membranous nephropathy. Proteinuria was noted at the age of 51 years, and membranous nephropathy was diagnosed by renal biopsy.
