The Impact of 6-month Micronutrient Supplementation on Viral, Immunological, and Mental Health Profile of a Cohort of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy-Naive HIV-Positive Patients in Northern Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: HIV is a chronic disease with inflammatory reactions involving numerous elements of the immune system, resulting in an increased risk for other physical and psychiatric morbidities. Micronutrients, some of which possess anti-inflammatory properties, may help prevent the development of psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression in people living with HIV disease. OBJECTIVES: This study examined the profile of viral load, CD4 cell count, C-reactive protein, anxiety, and depression among highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-naive HIV-positive patients receiving mic

Anhedonia, depression, anxiety, and craving in opiate dependent patients stabilized on oral naltrexone or an extended release naltrexone implant.

BACKGROUND: Naltrexone is a μ-opioid receptor antagonist that blocks opioid effects. Craving, depression, anxiety, and anhedonia are common among opioid dependent individuals and concerns have been raised that naltrexone increases them due to blocking endogenous opioids. Here, we present data that address these concerns. OBJECTIVE: Assess the relationship between affective responses and naltrexone treatment. METHODS: Opioid dependent patients (N = 306) were enrolled in a three cell (102ss/cell) randomized, double blind, double dummy, placebo-controlled 6-month trial comparing extended releas

Climate anxiety and quality of life among older adults: the mediating role of coping with climate change.

BACKGROUND: Limited research has examined climate anxiety among older adults. Existing studies on climate anxiety and quality of life primarily address younger populations. These populations demonstrate greater adaptation and coping skills in response to environmental change. In contrast, older adults with chronic conditions experience increased vulnerability to climate-related stressors. They frequently display patterns of helplessness, anxiety, and avoidance. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited 424 older adults (mean age, 67.47; SD, 10.12; range, 60-92) with chronic conditions (hy

Internet-delivered interpretation training reduces worry and anxiety in individuals with generalized anxiety disorder: A randomized controlled experiment.

Objective: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a debilitating condition, characterized by negative interpretations about ambiguous situations. This study tested whether entirely internet-delivered interpretation training [cognitive bias modification (CBM)] versus control promotes positive interpretations and reduces worry and anxiety in individuals with GAD, with or without depression. Method: A two-arm (CBM; control) parallel-group randomized controlled experiment. Assessments were preintervention (T0), postintervention (T1), 1-month (T2) postintervention, and 3-month (T3) postintervention.
