The development of halogen- and phosphorus-free flame-retardant strategies is urgently needed in textile industry. In this study, a caramel product doped with aromatic compounds was developed via caramelization and aldol reactions using glucose and p-phthaldialdehyde. The occupational bladder cancer risk for New Jersey white males was estimated with the use of both industry-job title-based and exposure-based analyses of data from 658 incident cases and 1,258 general population controls. Herein, we propose an alternative strategy for fabric coloring based on Cu2O microspheres. The effect of industrial noise on the prevalence of hypertension was studied in a group of 1101 female workers in a textile mill in Beijing in 1985. Essentially the entire group had worked in specific workshops in this mill for all their working lives and all had worked for at least five years. Byssinosis has been compensable in the Republic of South Africa (RSA) since 1973. The legal and administrative provisions for byssinosis compensation are reviewed. A series of 32 cases of presumed byssinosis was submitted to the compensation authorities by the authors. Identical reports were submitted to an independent medical panel. Manual flax processing originated in Egypt in 2 000 BC. In the present study a representative sample of the workers involved in this trade, where flax is processed in small workshops or homes, was examined, and their dust exposure was evaluated.
