Here we describe the high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) structure of a transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta)-binding protein-like (TB) domain, which comes from human fibrillin-1, the protein defective in the Marfan syndrome (MFS). This domain is found in fibrillins and latent TGF-beta-binding proteins (LTBPs) which are localized to fibrillar structures in the extracellular matrix. We have previously shown that estrogen and progestins regulate both cellular proliferation and transforming growth factor (TGF) expression in human endometrial adenocarcinoma cells in vitro. In the current study we examined the regulation of TGF-alpha and -beta 1 expression in endometrial adenocarcinoma xenografts. Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disorder characterized by tissue infiltration due to mononuclear phagocytes and lymphocytes and associated noncaseating granuloma formation. Pulmonary sarcoidosis (PS) shares a number of clinical, radiological, and histopathological characteristics with that of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Due to this, clinicians face issues in differentiating between PS and PTB in a substantial number of cases. There is a lack of any specific biomarker that can diagnose PS distinctively from PTB. Ethanol may cause an increase in sinusoidal pressure accompanied by portal hypertension. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) located in hepatic sinusoids may therefore be frequently exposed to dual stimulations of mechanical pressure and ethanol exposure in alcoholic liver injury. In this study, the effects of pressure loading and ethanol exposure on activation of rat cultured HSCs were investigated using an in vitro pressure-inducing apparatus.
