A 56-year-old woman presented with a painless lesion on the inner aspect of her upper lip. The clinical differential diagnoses were oral syphilitic chancre, tuberculosis, histoplamosis, and neoplasia. A biopsy was performed, and the histopathologic diagnosis revealed an eosinophilic ulcer of the oral mucosa. Based on this case, we discuss the history, mechanisms of pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, histopathology, differential diagnosis, and therapy of eosinophilic ulcer of the oral mucosa.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of pedical conjunctival flap transposition on refractory corneal ulcer.
METHODS: The data of 56 eyes of 56 patients with refractory corneal ulcer who underwent pedical conjuctival transposition in a tertiary eye unit in China from June 2005 to June 2009 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 36 infective corneal ulcers, 9 keratoplasty graft ulcers, 4 traumatic ulcers, and 7 chemical burn ulcers. Drug-induced gastrointestinal tract lesions are becoming more frequent but are generally little known. Although a large number of drugs have gastrointestinal adverse effects, there are few characteristic patterns. Acute ischemic gastritis is an uncommon entity that is rarely distinguished from other forms of intestinal ischemia. We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who was diagnosed with an unusual gastric lesion in the context of an acute exacerbation of her anemia.

During the period of 2001-2007 yy., more then 2300 patients with gastrointestinal bleedings were treated. 53% of them were diagnosed with duodenal or gastric ulcer disease. The developed diagnostic algorithm provided the correct diagnose and treatment in 98,2% of patients. Advantages of miniinvasive and endovascular methods by treating of gastrointestinal bleedings were demonstrated.

Massive bleeding from a peptic ulcer remains a challenge. A multidisciplinary team of skilled endoscopists, intensive care specialists, experienced upper gastrointestinal surgeons, and intervention radiologists all have a role to play. Endoscopy is the first-line treatment. Even with larger ulcers, endoscopic hemostasis can be achieved in the majority of cases. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to report the first case of Streptococcus bovis causing a perforating corneal ulcer in a healthy adult.
METHODS: Observational case report.
RESULTS: A healthy 77-year-old man presented with rapidly progressing corneal ulcer, resulting in perforation within 4 days. Preoperative and operative cultures isolated the same organism, S. bovis, susceptible only to vancomycin and ceftriaxone.
