[A rare case of bladder leiomyoma in pregnancy: a case report].

We present a rare case of leiomyoma of the urinary bladder that was diagnosed during pregnancy. The case of a 29-year-old woman primigravida at 13 weeks of pregnancy who presented with 6 months history of abdominal swelling which was gradually increasing in size. Computed tomography done revealed a large heterogenous mass(enhancing) with an area of non-enhancing (necrosis) suggestive of malignant ovarian tumor. The histological findings of the surgical specimen confirmed a leiomyoma of the urinary bladder. The clinical presentation, imaging findings, and management of this relatively rare beni

Magnetic resonance imaging of bladder pheochromocytomas: a review.

Bladder pheochromocytomas (PCCs) are rare tumors that account for 0.06% of all bladder tumors and makeup 1% of all PCCs. Most PCCs are functional, and they secrete catecholamines that lead to clinical symptoms such as paroxysmal hypertension, headaches, palpitations, and sweating. However, some are nonfunctional and asymptomatic and are hence difficult to diagnose. Cystoscopy and biopsy should not be performed when bladder PCCs are suspected. They may provoke a hypertensive crisis if preventative antiadrenergic blockers are not administered prior to the procedure. The diagnostic workup begins

The recurrence and progression risk after simultaneous endoscopic surgery of urothelial bladder tumour and benign prostatic hyperplasia: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate recurrence and progression risk after simultaneous endoscopic surgery of bladder cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), as simultaneous surgery is not an unusual scenario and theoretically simultaneous transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) can lead to an increased risk of recurrence in the bladder neck and prostatic urethra (BN/PU). METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the risk of recurrence (i.e. whole bladder and/or BN/PU) and tumour progression as outcomes after a

Incidental finding of multiple well-differentiated papillary mesotheliomas in peritoneum.

We present a case of multiple well-differentiated papillary mesotheliomas (WDPM) in the peritoneum found incidentally in a 63-year-old man with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. When multiple tumors are seen, malignant mesothelioma should be excluded by histopathological examination as this may have a similar focal appearance to WDPM. True stromal invasion is by far the most reliable criterion of mesothelial malignancy. In doubtful cases, a conservative diagnostic approach has been recommended. Compared to malignant mesotheliomas, WDPMs are rare and have a relatively indolent clinical cours

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the bladder.

We illustrate a case of an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) involving the bladder in a woman with dysuria and review the literature and differential diagnosis. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, also referred to as pseudosarcomatous myofibroblastic proliferation, is a rare lesion that can arise in the genitourinary system and is characterized by a fascicular arrangement of myofibroblasts with admixed inflammatory cells and slitlike vessels. Urinary bladder IMT can be a diagnostic pitfall because its histologic features (brisk mitoses, invasion into muscularis propria, and prominent nu

Three-dimensional cell groups with disordered nuclei and cellular discohesion (3DDD) are associated with high sensitivity and specificity for cystoscopic urine cytopathological diagnosis of low-grade urothelial neoplasia.

Cystoscopic urine obtained before the resection of low-grade urothelial carcinoma (LGUC), with adequate cytological sampling of the tumor, frequently revealed the presence of three-dimensional cell groups with disordered nuclei and cellular discohesion (3DDD). 936 cystoscopic urine specimens were categorized into five groups: Group 1 (80 specimens) with biopsy-proven LGUC within 6 months of cytologic examination, Group 2 (23 specimens) with biopsy proven LGUC within 6 to 36 months of cytologic examination, Group 3 (527 specimens) with a history of LGUC but no tumor for a period of greater than

Osteoclast-like giant cell carcinoma of the distal ureter.

Extraskeletal osteoclast-like giant cell (OGC) tumors are uncommon and have mainly been found in the breast and pancreas. OGC neoplasms of the urinary tract are extremely rare. Most cases found in the renal pelvis and bladder are associated with either an in situ urothelial malignancy or a conventional high-grade urothelial carcinoma. These malignancies tend to be associated with a poor prognosis and disease course. To our knowledge, no cases of OGC tumors of the distal ureter only have been published. Here, we present the case of a 76-year-old man who underwent hand-assisted laparoscopic neph

A Phase 1 Trial of Durvalumab in Combination with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) or External Beam Radiation Therapy in Patients with BCG-unresponsive Non-muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer: The Hoosier Cancer Research Network GU16-243 ADAPT-BLADDER Study.

BACKGROUND: Novel treatments and trial designs remain a high priority for bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)-unresponsive non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) patients. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of anti-PD-L1 directed therapy with durvalumab (D), durvalumab plus BCG (D + BCG), and durvalumab plus external beam radiation therapy (D + EBRT). DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A multicenter phase 1 trial was conducted at community and academic sites. INTERVENTION: Patients received 1120 mg of D intravenously every 3 wk for eight cycles. D + BCG patients also

Significance of dorsal bladder neck involvement in predicting the progression of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

OBJECTIVES: Accurately predicting of progression is important for patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). We previously reported that bladder neck involvement (BNI) was significantly associated with progression of NMIBC. In this study, we evaluated the prognostic significance of the detailed BNI location in NMIBC patients. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 651 patients diagnosed with primary NMIBC at a single center between 2000 and 2018. Using the detailed BNI location, patients were divided into the following three groups: dorsal BNI (BNId; 4 to 8 o'clock position), ven

Cancer incidence and mortality in Poland in 2019.

The purpose of this paper is to offer the most important epidemiological indicators of malignant neoplasms in Poland for the year 2019. In 2019, the Polish National Cancer Registry received information on almost 171.2 thousand new cancer cases and 100.3 thousand cancer deaths. The most common male cancers were prostate (20.6%), lung (16.1%), colon (6.8%), bladder (6.4%), and rectal (4.2%) cancers. Age-standardized incidence rates were at 118 per 100,000 for prostate, 89 for lung, 40 for colon, 38 for bladder, and 23 for the rectum. The most prevalent female cancers encompassed breast (22.9%),

Endoscopy and the detection of genitourinary carcinoma.

Endoscopy in the detection of urinary tract cancer is one of the primary tools of the urologist. It is used in the localization of bleeding sites, the systematic follow-up in detecting recurrent malignancies, the pathologic staging of carcinoma of the bladder through transurethral biopsy, and the identification and biopsy of primary transitional cell carcinoma of the prostate. It is also a prime tool in the diagnosis of ureteral and pelvic tumors through retrograde pyelography, brush biopsy, and urine collection for cytology. Nephroscopy is now also possible for the obscure lesions difficult t

[Self-catheterizable urinary re-diversion using the appendix for urethral recurrence after ileal neobladder].

A 68-year-old man underwent urinary re-diversion due to urethral recurrence 2 years after radical cystectomy with ileal neobladder reconstruction. Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and cystoscopy revealed anastomotic recurrence between bladder and urethra with a tendency of urinary retention. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor was performed and pathological findings showed transitional cell carcinoma (TCC), papillary invasive G3, pT1 or more. Finally, we performed total urethrectomy and partial resection of bladder neck with self-catheterizable urinary rediversion using app

Calcification of the bladder and papillary tumours of the bladder and ureters in gibbons (Hylobates lar) infected with Schistosoma haematobium (Iran).

Many species of nonhuman primates have been employed to find parasite-definitive host combinations which would allow for investigations on different aspects of schistosomiasis haematobia. Gibbons (Hylobates lar), exposed to moderate numbers of Schistosoma haematobium cercariae, have demonstrated some of the basic features of schistosomiasis haematobia in man. Calcification in schistosomiasis haematobia is variable. Radiologically evident calcification of the bladder was noted in one gibbon. Radio-opaque areas in the bladder corresponded to dense deposits of calcified eggs observed on histologi

Is switching intravesical chemotherapeutic agents beneficial in short-term recurrent high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder tumors? A 5-year retrospective study.

OBJECTIVE: To explore if switching intravesical chemotherapeutic agents is beneficial in short-term recurrences of high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) following the failure of preceding intravesical therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From June 2010 to October 2015, 205 patients with NMIBC who experienced tumor recurrence within a year after receiving first-line intravesical chemotherapy (IVC) were classified into two groups. After a second complete transurethral resection (TUR) process, we immediately altered the intravesical instillation agent for 107 patients (group A). In con
