OBJECTIVE: To determine the late outcome concerning urinary continence, late complications, sexuality, and fertility in patients with the exstrophy-epispadias complex.
METHODS: Until July 1994, 115 patients underwent surgical treatment at our institution. The mean follow-up period in 102 patients is 16.7 years. Urinary diversion was performed in 88 patients, a modified Young-Dees procedure in 8, a sling plasty in 3, and genital reconstruction alone in 3 patients.

BACKGROUND: Orchialgia is a rare but significant complication experienced after open and minimally invasive inguinal hernia repairs with or without mesh. Causes have been theorized to include trauma to the spermatic cord, mesh-induced inflammation, vascular insult, fibrosis or mesh scarring of the cord, and neuropathic injury to the autonomic paravasal nerve fibers supplying the testicle. PURPOSE: Epididymo-orchitis is a devastating complication of imperforate anus. Without proper treatment the condition may result in infertility. Nevertheless, the exact etiology and optimal management of epididymo-orchitis in anorectal malformation are unknown.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective review of our hospital records between 1997 and 2010 identified 6 cases of epididymo-orchitis in 82 boys with anorectal malformation. Extensive search of the literature revealed 35 additional cases. Clinical details of these 41 patients were analyzed using chi-square testing.
