The impact of vitiligo is generally believed to be underestimated. Salzes et al. propose a questionnaire to measure the actual burden of vitiligo. Using a stepwise approach they constructed and validated this instrument taking into account the differences between fair and dark skin phototypes. The reactivity of SO2 with the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) and in Folin Ciocalteu (FC) assays was analysed under different experimental conditions. White piedra is a superficial mycosis caused by the genus Trichosporon. It is characterized by nodules on the hair shaft. Pediculosis capitis is caused by Pediculus humanus var. capitis of the suborder Anoplura. Whereas pediculosis is a common infestation, clinical reports of white piedra are rare. Molecular biology procedures identified T. inkin as the agent of white piedra in this case report. The authors present associations between the two diseases in the same patient in order to highlight their clinical differences.

CASE REPORT: We report a case of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery in a patient with Darier-White disease.
COMMENTS: A keratotic lid lesion in contact with the ocular surface near the temporal corneal wound is believed to be the source of infection. Such lesions are the predominant manifestation of Darier-White disease and are known to harbour gram-positive skin flora. This has implications for planning intraocular surgery in these patients.

Leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter (VWM) is a newly described entity with characteristic MRI features. We report the cranial MRI findings in three sisters with slowly progressive neurological deterioration. The MRI showed symmetrical diffuse abnormalities of cerebral white matter with hypointensity on FLAIR images. The diagnosis of leukoencephalopathy with VWM was made on the basis of genetic analysis.

This paper reports the use of a tin dioxide multisensor array based electronic nose for recognition of 29 typical aromas in white wine. Headspace technique has been used to extract aroma of the wine. Multivariate analysis, including principal component analysis (PCA) as well as probabilistic neural networks (PNNs), has been used to identify the main aroma added to the wine. The results showed that in spite of the strong influence of ethanol and other majority compounds of wine, the system could discriminate correctly the aromatic compounds added to the wine with a minimum accuracy of 97.2%.
