Identifying Eligibility for Specialist Intervention in COPD from UK Primary Care Data: A "Treatable Traits" Approach.

BACKGROUND: Specialist intervention in COPD is often reactive, resulting in inequalities in the provision of care. A proactive approach, in which individuals with modifiable disease are identified from primary care records, may help to tackle this inequality in access. AIM: To estimate the prevalence of "treatable traits" in COPD in a primary care research database and to assess health service usage. METHODS: We performed a secondary analysis of individuals with either 1) a primary care diagnosis of COPD or 2) obstructive spirometry and history of ever smoking in a large observational study

Clinical characteristics and influencing factors of cardiovascular comorbidities in psoriasis.

INTRODUCTION: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder with systemic implications, including an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The interaction between psoriasis severity, metabolic abnormalities, and systemic inflammation may contribute to cardiovascular comorbidities. However, the clinical characteristics and predictors of CVD in psoriasis patients remain incompletely understood. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 320 adult patients with psoriasis. Participants were categorized into two groups according to cardiovascular status (psoriasis with CVD

Multi-organ involvement in preterm neonatal encephalopathy.

BACKGROUND: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a complex condition resulting from oxygen deprivation at birth. As the body redirects cardiac output to protect the brain, this can lead to multiorgan dysfunction (MOD). While most previous studies traditionally focused on term neonates with HIE, our goal was to focus on preterm neonates to study the effect on organs during critical periods of brain development. We aim to assess the incidence and severity of MOD in relation to brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities in this vulnerable popu

Prevalence of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Associated Risk Factors Among Professional Drivers in Chromepet, Chengalpattu District: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background Professional drivers frequently suffer from musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) due to prolonged sitting, poor posture, repetitive movements, and exposure to whole-body vibrations. These factors contribute to pain and discomfort, commonly affecting the shoulders, limbs, back, and neck. Professional drivers are particularly vulnerable because of extended driving hours, exposure to vibration, and awkward postures. The objective of this study is to assess the prevalence and patterns of musculoskeletal morbidity among professional drivers and to identify the factors influencing its occurre

Meranzin Hydrate ameliorates "atherosclerotic depression" in ApoE-/- mice by restoring gut microbiota-driven microbial-inflammatory circuitry.

BACKGROUND: Depression and atherosclerosis frequently co-occur, with disrupted gut microbiota-driven inflammatory circuitry emerging as a shared pathogenic mechanism. To address this, we operationally define "atherosclerotic depression" as depression comorbidity with atherosclerosis. Despite its clinical significance, integrated therapeutic strategies remain lacking. METHODS: An ApoE-/- mouse model combining high-fat diet feeding and acute restraint stress was established to mimic atherosclerosis-associated depression. Animals received Meranzin Hydrate (MH) treatment, followed by comprehensiv

Epizootic of Clinostomum marginatum (Trematoda: Clinostomidae) in Ambystoma tigrinum from Colorado, USA: Investigation through Genomics, Histopathology, and Noninvasive Imagery.

Trematodes in the genus Clinostomum develop into large metacercariae that can sometimes achieve high intensity in their second intermediate hosts, potentially causing pathology. In 2022, there was 100% (15/15) infection prevalence of Clinostomum marginatum, with a mean of 3,125 metacercariae per salamander (range: 279-4,075) and a median of 2,949. Dissection and histopathology results indicated that C. marginatum was found in nearly all body tissues and organs of the salamanders. Parasitic infection was closely associated with chronic inflammation and fibrosis around the cysts, with heavily in

Causality of Childhood and Adult Body Mass Index on Sick Sinus Syndrome: A Mendelian Randomization Study.

Background The relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the risk of sick sinus syndrome (SSS) remains unclear. Clarifying the impact of BMI on SSS at different life stages is essential for advancing precision medicine and implementing effective prevention strategies to reduce the burden of SSS. Methods The causalities of childhood and adult BMI with SSS were investigated by univariate and multivariate Mendelian randomization. Reverse causalities were also explored to improve the accuracy of causality findings. Different sources of exposure data were used for replication analysis, and the

Beyond endocrine features in non-classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia: a narrative review of psychoneuro-social perspectives in pediatric and adolescent patients.

UNLABELLED: Non-classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia (NCCAH) is a late-onset, milder form of 21-hydroxylase deficiency marked by adrenal androgen excess. While endocrine aspects are well described, psychoneuro-social outcomes in pediatric and adolescent patients remain less clearly defined. A literature search of MEDLINE (PubMed) was conducted in July 2025 using "Non-Classical Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia" with terms related to mental health, cognition, social adaptation, gender identity, sexual orientation, and heterozygous carriers. In females, androgen excess is frequently associated

Intrastriatal Delivery of a Zinc Finger Protein Targeting the Mutant HTT Gene Allele Obviates Lipid Phenotypes in Brain and Plasma in Huntington's Disease Mice.

Reducing the burden of mutant Huntingtin (mHTT) protein in brain cells is a strategy for treating Huntington's disease (HD). However, it is still unclear what pathological changes can be reproducibly reversed by mHTT lowering and whether these changes can be measured in peripheral biofluids. We previously found that lipid changes that occur in brain with HD progression could be prevented by attenuating HTT transcription of the mutant allele in a genetic mouse model (LacQ140) with inducible whole body lowering. Here, we tested whether intrastriatal injection of a therapeutic capable of repressi

Prophylactic infusion of donor derived CMV specific T cells for the prevention of CMV reactivation following allogeneic HSCT.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation remains a common and serious complication following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), often leading to significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised recipients. Adoptive transfer of CMV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CMV-CTLs) has emerged as a promising immunotherapeutic approach to restore antiviral immunity and prevent CMV-related complications. This interim analysis of a randomized phase I-II clinical trial evaluates the safety and preliminary efficacy of prophylactic infusion of donor-derived CMV-CTLs administer

HIV infection and immunosenescence: challenges and intervention strategies.

BACKGROUND: Antiretroviral therapy has extended the life expectancy of people with HIV (PWH), leading to a rapidly expanding ageing population of PWH worldwide, including in low- and middle-income countries. The interaction between ageing and chronic HIV infection is closely associated with immunosenescence, and PWH are widely regarded as a model of accelerated immune ageing. Immunosenescence, characterized by a progressive decline in immune function and increased susceptibility to infections, contributes to a higher burden of age-related comorbidities and cancers, posing a major long-term hea

Factors driving adolescent tuberculosis incidence by age and sex in 30 high-tuberculosis burden countries: a mathematical modelling study.

INTRODUCTION: During adolescence, tuberculosis incidence rises, with a greater increase in males compared with females. Tuberculosis notifications and estimates infrequently disaggregate adolescent age groups. Moreover, the factors that drive the increases in overall incidence and the male-to-female (MF) ratio remain unclear. METHODS: We constructed a mechanistic model to estimate cumulative Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and tuberculosis disease incidence in the WHO's 30 high-tuberculosis burden countries (HBCs), which represent 86%-90% of global tuberculosis incidence. We derived infe

In Vivo Antibacterial and Biochemical Effects of Moringa oleifera Leaf Extract in a Rat Model of Multidrug-Resistant Salmonella Typhimurium.

The burden of Salmonella infections remains high largely due to emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains. Moringa oleifera used in traditional medicine to treat bacterial infection has shown considerable antibacterial activity in several in vitro studies but has not been extensively investigated in vivo. The aim of this study was to assess the antibacterial activity of this plant in a rat model of a multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella strain as a potential alternative treatment. A MDR strain of Salmonella Typhimurium was detected using antibiotic susceptibility. Then a methanol extract of M.

The Association Between Body Fat Percentage and Severe Headache or Migraine: A National Cross-Sectional Survey.

Background and objective Migraine is characterized by recurrent headaches, frequently associated with nausea, photophobia, and phonophobia; it is highly prevalent and linked to a heavy socioeconomic burden. While the prevalence of obesity in the general population has increased in recent years, no prior studies exist regarding the relationship between body fat percentage (BF%) and the incidence of severe headaches or migraine. In light of this, we conducted this study to address this gap in data. Methods We utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) involv
