Feasibility and safety of repeated 23% hypertonic saline boluses for electrical impedance tomography contrast enhancement in anaesthetised horses.

Hypertonic saline (HS) has been used to enhance electrical impedance tomography (EIT) cardiac-related signals associated with pulmonary perfusion in other species, but its suitability and physiological effects in horses are unknown. This exploratory study aimed to determine whether intravenous administration of 100 mL of 23% HS produces a detectable change in thoracic impedance in anaesthetised horses, and to evaluate the physiological effects of repeated bolus administration. Six adult horses were anaesthetised twice using total intravenous anaesthesia. Hypertonic saline 23% was administered

Volumetric analysis of external root resorption after clear aligner treatment of open bite cases: a CBCT study.

BACKGROUND: Orthodontically induced external root resorption (OIERR) is a recognized adverse effect of orthodontic treatment. Limited literature exists that reported on volumetric root changes in anterior open bite patients treated with clear aligners. This study aimed to evaluate three-dimensional volumetric changes in anterior teeth roots using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in open-bite patients treated with clear aligners. METHODS: Fifty CBCT scans [pre-treatment (T1) and post-treatment (T2)] obtained from 25 adult patients (11 males,14 females; mean age: 32.67 ± 10.67 years) with a

A Proposed Parameter-Based Planning Framework for Inferior Alveolar Nerve Repositioning.

Background: Rehabilitation of the severely atrophic posterior mandible remains challenging when the residual bone height above the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) is insufficient for conventional implant placement. In such cases, IAN lateralization or transposition may facilitate placement of longer implants and support fixed prosthetic rehabilitation. However, these procedures require careful case selection because of their technical complexity and the risk of neurosensory complications. Objective: This narrative review presents a literature-informed, expert-derived, parameter-based clinical de

Clinical evaluation of direct and indirect restorations in class I cavities: a 10-year follow-up study.

BACKGROUND: In the clinic, it is crucial to be aware of the long-term clinical efficacy of restoration techniques, such as direct and indirect, when restoring molar teeth. This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the clinical performance of direct and indirect restorations in Class I cavities in molar teeth. Randomization was achieved by flipping a coin to determine which tooth would receive the direct restoration, with the other tooth receiving an indirect restoration. METHODS: The study was comprised of 27 patients, with an average age of 34.16 (range, 24-54) years. A total of 54

Associated variables of peri-implant bone resorption for dental implants placed in the fibular reconstructed maxilla and mandible of patients with oral cancer: A retrospective clinical study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Peri-implant bone resorption is a critical factor in evaluating the long-term success of dental implants. However, information regarding the difference in peri-implant bone resorption when implants are placed in microvascular fibula free (MFF) flaps is limited, and how jaw location may influence long-term peri-implant bone stability under functional occlusal loading over extended follow-up periods is unclear. PURPOSE: The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to investigate the variables related to peri-implant fibular bone resorption under functional occlusal

Mapping Tree Canopy in Urban Environments Using Point Clouds from Airborne Laser Scanning and Street Level Imagery.

Resilient cities incorporate a social, ecological, and technological systems perspective through their trees, both in urban and peri-urban forests and linear street trees, and help promote and understand the concept of ecosystem resilience. Urban tree inventories usually involve the collection of field data on the location, genus, species, crown shape and volume, diameter, height, and health status of these trees. In this work, we have developed a multi-stage methodology to update urban tree inventories in a fully automatic way, and we have applied it in the city of Pamplona (Spain). We have c

Fluorine MR Imaging Probes Dynamic Migratory Profiles of Perfluorocarbon-Loaded Dendritic Cells After Streptozotocin-Induced Inflammation.

PURPOSE: The pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes (T1D) involves presentation of islet-specific self-antigens by dendritic cells (DCs) to autoreactive T cells, resulting in the destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells. We aimed to study the dynamic homing of diabetes-prone DCs to the pancreas and nearby organs with and without induction of pancreatic stress in a T1D susceptible model of repeated streptozotocin (STZ) injection. PROCEDURES: In vitro labeling of activated bone marrow-derived DCs (BMDCs) from NOD (Nonobese diabetes) mice was performed using zonyl perfluoro-15-crown-5-eth

Inguinoscrotal stage of testicular descent: analysis in 217 human fetuses.

BACKGROUND: Testicular descent is a complex process of relevant importance for the comprehension of cryptorchidism. Studies about the inguinoscrotal stage of testicular migration correlating the testicular position with fetal parameters are rare in the literature. Our hypothesis is that the transition of the testis by the inguinal canal is a very fast process and occurs at the end of the third gestational trimester. AIM: To analyze the inguinoscrotal stage of testicular descent during the human fetal period. STUDY DESIGN: This is an observational study in human fetuses. We studied 217 human
