Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) are essential for diagnosing and treating pancreatobiliary diseases. Single-session EUS and ERCP are considered to be essential in reducing the duration of hospital stays; however, complications are a primary concern. The thrombin-like enzyme from Bothrops barnetti named barnettobin was purified. We report some biochemical features of barnettobin including the complete amino acid sequence that was deduced from the cDNA. Snake venom serine proteases affect several steps of human hemostasis ranging from the blood coagulation cascade to platelet function. Special challenges exist in the management of patients with von Willebrand disease (VWD) because of limitations in diagnostic facilities and therapeutic options. Ultrasonography performed at 21 weeks of gestation and magnetic resonance imaging at 23 weeks identified a huge tumor in the occipital region. Premature rupture of the membrane occurred at 28 weeks of gestation, so this baby boy was delivered by emergency cesarean section. Anemia and low blood pressure due to hemorrhage from the surface of the tumor required massive blood transfusion and hemostasis. The tumor was conservatively managed. In the present study, we describe the purification and characterization of a metalloprotease 'trimarin' from Trimeresurus malabaricus snake venom. Trimarin is a single-chain basic protein, with a molecular mass of 29.6kDa.
