Presence of Leptospira spp. in a Mosaic of Wetlands Used for Livestock Raising under Differing Hydroclimatic Conditions.

Knowledge about the life cycle and survival mechanisms of leptospires in the environment is scarce, particularly regarding the environmental factors associated with their presence in ecosystems subject to livestock farming, where precipitation, seasonal floods, and river overflows could act as facilitators of leptospire dispersion. This study aimed to identify and study the presence of Leptospira spp. in the Lower Delta of the Paraná River and describe the physical, chemical, and hydrometeorological conditions associated with their presence in wetland ecosystems impaired by livestock raising i

MS275 as Class I HDAC inhibitor displayed therapeutic potential on malignant ascites by iTRAQ-based quantitative proteomic analysis.

BACKGROUND: Malignant ascites is a manifestation of end stage events in a variety of cancers and is associated with significant morbidity. Epigenetic modulators play a key role in cancer initiation and progression, among which histone deacetylases (HDACs) are considered as one of the most important regulators for various cancer development, such as liver cancer, ovarian cancer, and pancreatic cancer et al. Thus, in this paper, we sought to explore the therapeutic effect of HDAC inhibitor on malignant ascites. METHODS: In this report, we tested the therapeutic effect of different isoform selec

Salivary Biomarkers as Predictors of Obesity and Intermediate Hyperglycemia in Adolescents.

INTRODUCTION: Childhood obesity presents a major risk for metabolic diseases in adulthood. Noninvasive methods are needed for predicting the course of obesity in children and its complications. Using blood for longitudinal analyses of biomarkers to predict disease in children is not a convenient method. Saliva presents a noninvasive platform to detect inflammatory changes in biomarkers as possible predictive measures of future pathological events. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between specific salivary biomarkers, obesity, and intermediate hyperglycemia in

METHODS - A randomised controlled trial of METhotrexate to treat Hand Osteoarthritis with Synovitis: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Hand osteoarthritis is a common and disabling problem without effective therapies. Accumulating evidence suggests the role of local inflammation in causing pain and structural progression in hand osteoarthritis, and hand osteoarthritis with synovitis is a commonly encountered clinical phenotype. Methotrexate is a well-established, low-cost, and effective treatment for inflammatory arthritis with a well-described safety profile. The aim of this multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial is to determine whether methotrexate reduces pain over 6 months in patients

An automated structured education intervention based on a smartphone app in Chinese patients with type 1 diabetes: a protocol for a single-blinded randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Although evidence had demonstrated the effectiveness of smartphone apps in diabetes care, the majority of apps had been developed for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and targeted at populations outside of China. The effects of applying a smartphone app with structured education on glycemic control in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) are unclear. A digital, culturally tailored structured education program was developed in a smartphone app (Yi tang yun qiao) to provide an automated, individualized education program aimed at improving self-management skills in patients with T1

Randomised, cOntrolled Multicentre trial of 26 weeks subcutaneous liraglutide (a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor Agonist), with or without contiNuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obstructive sleep apnoEa (OSA) (ROMANCE): study protocol assessing the effects of weight loss on the apnea-hypnoea index (AHI).

INTRODUCTION: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) often occur concurrently, and untreated OSA may potentially amplify the high risk of cardiovascular disease in T2DM. Compliance with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), the conventional treatment for OSA, can be poor and considering weight loss is the most effective treatment for OSA. This trial examines whether the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist liraglutide, a glucose-lowering therapy associated with significant weight loss used in T2DM, can improve the severity and symptoms of OSA. The Functional Role of Dreaming in Emotional Processes.

Dream experience (DE) represents a fascinating condition linked to emotional processes and the human inner world. Although the overlap between REM sleep and dreaming has been overcome, several studies point out that emotional and perceptually vivid contents are more frequent when reported upon awakenings from this sleep stage. Actually, it is well-known that REM sleep plays a pivotal role in the processing of salient and emotional waking-life experiences, strongly contributing to the emotional memory consolidation. In this vein, we highlighted that, to some extent, neuroimaging studies showed
