[Control of onchocerciasis vectors in West Africa: description of the logistics adapted for a large-scale public health program].

The Onchocerciasis Control Programme (OCP) in West Africa, launched in 1974, includes 11 participating countries and covers more than one million square kilometres. The aim of the OCP is to control blinding onchocerciasis (river blindness) which is caused by the savannah strain of Onchocerca volvulus transmitted by the Simulium damnosum complex. There is no effective macrofilaricide, so vector control to prevent the transmission of the parasite remains the method of choice, despite the availability of ivermectin, a drug which controls ocular morbidity. The potential value of vector control has

Preclinical Characterization of CLSP-1025, a First-in-Class, Mutation-Specific T-Cell Engager Targeting a Neoantigen Derived from a Common p53 Mutation.

PURPOSE: Targeting intracellular oncogenic mutations with T-cell engagers (TCE) has the potential to expand precision immunotherapy beyond surface antigens. In this study, we describe the preclinical characterization of CLSP-1025, a mutation-specific TCE that targets the p53R175H neoantigen presented by HLA-A*02:01. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: CLSP-1025 binding, selectivity, and functional activity were evaluated using biochemical assays, T-cell activation and cytotoxicity assays, primary human cells, patient-derived tumor organoids, and humanized mouse models. Off-target activity was assessed using

Pre-treatment cognitive impairment in patients with NSCLC: Prevalence and psychosocial factors.

BACKGROUND: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is increasingly recognized in patients with non-central nervous system malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), although evidence on pre-treatment cognitive functioning and associated psychosocial factors remains limited. This exploratory study investigated baseline cognitive functioning in NSCLC patients before oncological treatment and examined the role of cognitive reserve, emotional distress, sleep quality, and subjective cognitive complaints. METHODS: Fifty NSCLC patients underwent comprehensive neuropsychological

Integration and scale-up of a primary healthcare-based chronic wound care package for persons affected by skin-neglected tropical diseases and other conditions in Ethiopia: a protocol for an implementation research study.

BACKGROUND: The profound impact of wounds on the quality of life of those affected is often underestimated. Chronic wounds impose substantial burdens on individuals and communities in terms of disability, mental distress, stigma, and economic productivity losses. To effectively address these challenges, an integrated and comprehensive approach to primary healthcare-based chronic wound care prevention and management is essential. This implementation research study aims to assess the integration and scale-up of a comprehensive package of primary healthcare-based wound care and psychosocial suppo

Perioperative Treatment of Neuropathic Pain (Nerve SPACE 2025).

UNLABELLED: Neuropathic pain following brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injury represents one of the most debilitating and least effectively treated sequelae of nerve trauma. WHERE ARE WE NOW?: Neuropathic pain affects a majority of patients with severe nerve injuries and is frequently more disabling than associated motor or sensory deficits. The current scientific understanding implicates maladaptive peripheral and central nervous system changes, including neuroma formation, nociceptor hyperexcitability, central sensitization, and cortical reorganization. Contemporary management relies o

Health facilities as a lever for birth registration in low- and middle-income countries: a realist review.

The health system has been identified as a key lever for increasing access to birth registration (BR) directly after birth. BR is critical for upholding human rights and accessing essential services, yet many low- and middle-income countries struggle with low BR rates. In this realist synthesis, we reviewed literature on two separate interventions that are designed to increase access to BR services. This included (i) embedding or appointing an official to register births in health facilities and (ii) incorporating education on BR in routine perinatal care programmes. This study aimed to suppor

First-Line Enfortumab Vedotin Plus Pembrolizumab in Platinum-Ineligible Urothelial Carcinoma: A Three-Case Series.

Locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (la/mUC) has a poor prognosis. In routine clinical practice, platinum-based chemotherapy has generally been used as first-line treatment. Enfortumab vedotin plus pembrolizumab (EVP) has recently been introduced as another first-line option; however, patients who are platinum-ineligible, such as those with severe renal dysfunction and/or poor performance status, are often underrepresented in clinical studies, and the optimal systemic therapy for this group remains uncertain. Herein, we report three platinum-ineligible patients with la/mUC who

Antimicrobial Strategies for Chronic Cutaneous Ulcers: From Preclinical Nanotechnology to Clinical Practice.

Chronic cutaneous ulcers represent a growing global public health challenge, affecting an estimated 1-2% of the population in high-income countries and imposing a substantial socioeconomic burden through prolonged hospitalizations, repeated outpatient visits, increased risk of amputation, and significant impairment of patients' quality of life. Standard wound care centered on debridement, moisture-balancing dressings, and systemic antibiotics fails to resolve a large proportion of cases, particularly those complicated by polymicrobial biofilm infection and antimicrobial resistance, underscorin

Understanding Appropriation of Digital Self-Monitoring Tools in Mental Health Care: Qualitative Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Digital self-monitoring tools, such as the experience sampling method (ESM), enable individuals to collect detailed information about their mental health and daily life context and may help guide and support person-centered mental health care. However, similar to many digital interventions, the ESM struggles to move from research to clinical integration. To guide the implementation of self-monitoring tools in mental health care, it is important to understand why and how clinicians and clients adopted, adapted, and incorporated these tools in practice. OBJECTIVE: Therefore, this st

The role of attachment and parental bonding in the psychosocial assessment of transplant candidates: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Kidney transplant involves profound psychological, relational, and social changes for both the patients and their family context. Occasionally, the family or social support can be deemed "dysfunctional" as it fails to fully comprehend the patient's needs and requirements. Attachment style, which pertains to the motivation to seek proximity and care in relationships with caregivers, has a significative role in the social support system for transplant, therapeutic adherence, and maintenance of the transplanted organ. We sought to assess attachment styles among patients awaiting trans
