Three-Dimensional Evaluation of Secondary Alveolar Bone Grafting in Patients With Bilateral Cleft Lip and/or Palate: A 2-3-Year Post-Operative Follow-Up.

OBJECTIVES: To quantify secondary alveolar bone graft (SABG) resorption and the position of permanent upper canines in 3D in patients with bilateral cleft lip and/or palate (BCL/P). METHODS: Patients with BCL/P were prospectively included. CBCT scans were taken pre-operative (T0), at approximately 6 weeks (T1), 6 months (T2), 1-2 years (T3) and > 2 years post-operative (T4). Volumetric assessment of the bone grafts was performed across the time points to calculate the resorption rate. The position of the canines was assessed on the CBCT scans at all time points, determining angulation towards

Esthetic Crown Lengthening Associated With Modified Lip Repositioning Surgery (Modified LipStat) in the Treatment of Excessive Gingival Display: A 6-Year Follow-Up Case Report.

Smiling expresses emotions and affects interpersonal relationships, influencing self-esteem and social life. Nowadays, concerns about aesthetics and access to the Internet have made people more informed and demanding about treatments for gingival smile. Excessive gingival display (EGD) is caused by a variety of factors that can act alone or in combination. These factors may include altered passive eruption (APE), vertical maxillary excess, a short upper lip, and hyperactive upper lip, among other factors that cause gingival hyperplasia. In this case report, the EGD was caused by vertical maxil

Pre-surgical Nasal Molding of a Two-Day-Old Neonate With Complete Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate Using Passive Nasoalveolar Molding Technique: A Case Report.

The occurrence of congenital deformities like cleft lip and palate is not uncommon and is often a traumatizing experience for families. The entire rehabilitation process includes frequent hospital visits and the brunt of numerous procedures. Early intervention with pre-surgical infant orthopedics facilitates better surgical outcomes and additional psychosocial benefits to the infant's family. The present clinical report addresses the pre-surgical management of a non-syndromic two-day-old female baby whose parents presented with the chief complaint of deformed lips, nose, and difficulty while f

Three-dimensional Analysis of Skeletal Stability in Cleft Lip and Palate Patients Undergoing Bimaxillary Surgery With Le Fort I Osteotomy and Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy.

Orthognathic surgery in patients with lip and palate clefts is challenging owing to scar tissue from primary repairs and severe deformities. In this study, we evaluated the stability of Le Fort I osteotomy with intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) in patients with cleft lip and palate using 3-dimensional (3D) analysis. This retrospective study comprised 14 cleft lip and palate patients (3 females, 11 males; the average age at surgery: 23.8 y) who underwent bimaxillary orthognathic surgery involving Lefort I osteotomy and IVRO. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were obtained at p

Prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-cleft lip/palate syndrome through a hybrid workflow: A case report with 2-year follow-up.

AIM: Ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-cleft lip/palate (EEC) syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects ectodermal derived structures, including teeth, nails, hair, and sweat glands. Prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with EEC syndrome is essential towards improving their overall quality of life. METHODS AND RESULTS: In the case shown, a telescopic retained overdenture was made on the lower jaw based on digital impression of a patient with EEC syndrome associated with cleft lip and cleft palate. Due to the congenital anomalies and limited mouth opening, the impression was taken with

Assessment of dental arch stability after orthodontic treatment and oral rehabilitation in complete unilateral cleft lip and palate and non-clefts patients using 3D stereophotogrammetry.

BACKGROUND: Although arch stability has been studied in patients without a cleft, evidence for patients with a cleft is sparse. Therefore, we compared the dimensions and stability of dental arches in cleft lip and palate patients and those without a cleft. METHODS: Forty participants, 20 with a complete unilateral cleft lip and palate and 20 non-cleft patients aged from 18 to 30 years, with anterior and/or posterior crossbite and receiving orthodontic treatment were evaluated retrospectively. Eighty gypsum casts were digitized using a laser model scanner casts for both groups made immediately

A genome-wide scan of cleft lip triads identifies parent-of-origin interaction effects between ANK3 and maternal smoking, and between ARHGEF10 and alcohol consumption.

Background: Although both genetic and environmental factors have been reported to influence the risk of isolated cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P), the exact mechanisms behind CL/P are still largely unaccounted for. We recently developed new methods to identify parent-of-origin (PoO) interactions with environmental exposures (PoOxE) and now apply them to data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of families with children born with isolated CL/P. Methods: Genotypes from 1594 complete triads and 314 dyads (1908 nuclear families in total) with CL/P were available for the curren

Dermis reconstruction and dermis fat graft through an intraoral incision: a new method to correct the furrowed philtral column deformity in lesser-form cleft lip.

OBJECTIVE: Minor cleft lip deformities are also called lesser-form cleft lips. A furrowed philtral column is one of the important characters of these deformities. Many surgical methods have been adopted to correct it with less than satisfactory results. In this article, a dermis reconstructive method was introduced. PATIENTS: From 2003 to 2010, 35 patients with lesser-form cleft lip were treated in our center. INTERVENTIONS: Through an intraoral and vermilion incision, the oral side of the orbicularis oris muscle on the affected side was dissected. Through a vermilion and perialar incision,
