PURPOSE: To assess the current level of evidence supporting the distinct diagnosis of PDA by evaluating the use of the diagnostic tools currently available. METHODS: A comprehensive search of three bibliographic databases was undertaken, including: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PSYCHINFO. Study selection, extraction and quality assessment were conducted independently by two reviewers via Covidence. English-language studies pertaining to the diagnosis of PDA with empirical data were included. Methodological bias was critically appraised using the QUADRAS-2. RESULTS: 12 relevant studies were identified

Defining disease recurrence after curative treatment of esophageal cancer: a literature review.

BACKGROUND: Despite aggressive multimodal treatment, disease recurs in 30-40% of patients with esophageal cancer. In selected patients with isolated locoregional recurrence (LRR), radical treatment may lead to long-term survival. Lack of consensus on the definition of LRR complicates the selection of optimal treatment strategies. This study aimed to review the literature on the definition of LRR. METHODS: A systematic search of Embase and Medline Ovid databases was conducted to identify studies reporting on LRR after curative treatment for advanced esophageal cancer. Data on the definition of

Novel biomarkers driving treatment selection in metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer: fundamentals of personalized clinical decision making.

INTRODUCTION: Prostate cancer is well known to be androgen-dependent, with growth directly relying on the androgen receptor signaling pathway. In fact, androgen deprivation therapy, with or without Docetaxel and/or newer hormonal drugs such as Abiraterone acetate, Enzalutamide, Apalutamide, and Darolutamide, remains the most effective systemic treatment for metastatic disease. Beyond PSA detection, there is a lack of standardized biohumoral markers to understand the biology of metastatic castrate-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC), predict response to newer therapies such as immunotherapy, and

Investigating the Impact of Antioxidant Supplementation on Male Infertility: A Scoping Review.

Infertility affects thousands of couples internationally, leaving a profound effect on their families and communities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately one out of six individuals of reproductive age worldwide experiences infertility in their life span. Approximately 35% of infertile couples are affected by male factor infertility, in which semen analysis is the gold standard diagnostic procedure. Oxidative stress (OS) is considered to play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of male infertility. A thorough literature search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus

Potential Efficacy of Polyphenols and Isothiocyanates in the Management of Genitourinary Diseases: A Systematic Review of Preclinical and Clinical Studies.

The global burden of genitourinary diseases is increasing worldwide, highlighting the need to identify new approaches for their prevention and treatment. In this context, polyphenols, isothiocyanates derived from plants of the Brassicaceae and Moringaceae botanical families, along with their natural sources, represent promising strategies, as they exhibit several health-promoting properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic effects. However, a comprehensive overview of their benefits in the genitourinary system is currently unavailable. In this paper, we performed a

Therapeutic management of osteoporosis in Parkinson's disease.

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease (PD) is frequently complicated by osteoporosis (OP). PD is associated with a high risk of falls, meaning PD patients with osteoporosis have an increased risk of fractures, particularly hip fractures. Osteoporosis in PD is multifactorial, involving nutritional factors and vitamin deficiencies, weight loss associated with sarcopenia, and PD treatments such as levodopa. AREAS COVERED: This review addresses the assessment of bone involvement in PD and the therapeutic strategies that should be considered to reduce fracture risk. The literature was identified throu

Secondary Thyroid Cancer Risks from External Beam Radiation Exposure Modulated by Dose, Field, Sex, Age, and Latency Period.

INTRODUCTION: Exposure to ionizing radiation is a well-established risk factor for the development of thyroid malignancies. Given the fact that the thyroid gland is a particularly radiosensitive organ and consequently vulnerable to radiotherapy in the head and neck area, our review aims to summarize the related risk factors of second primary thyroid cancer development and exposure to ionizing radiation. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was performed in MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases. RESULTS: Dose and field of radiot

Transition from pediatric to adult healthcare for patients with chronic functional constipation: a scoping review and provider insight.

Chronic functional constipation is complex and often requires a multifaceted treatment approach. Patients are treated by medical and surgical units in outpatient and inpatient settings. Some adolescents will require transition to adult services for ongoing management, but little is understood about the transitional care needs of this cohort. A scoping review of PubMed, MEDLINE and Embase examined transitional care for patients with chronic functional constipation aged 10 to 30 years. Additionally, correspondence was sought from hospitals with specialized Colorectal Centers. Three studies, all

Clinical Risk and Medico-Legal Implications in Zygomatic Implant Rehabilitation: An Umbrella Review of Systematic Reviews.

Background: Zygomatic implants (ZIs) were initially pioneered by Brånemark to rehabilitate patients suffering from destructive diseases through original surgical technique (OST). Subsequently, other techniques were proposed, such as the zygomatic anatomy-guided approach (ZAGA). This umbrella review was conceived to quantify and critically characterize the spectrum of complications associated with different techniques of ZI placement. Methods: Systematic reviews, encompassing both those with and without meta-analysis, focusing on the complications associate with ZIs and published only in the En

Epiphora: A Structured Diagnostic Approach for the Otolaryngologist.

However, as there is substantial overlap between ophthalmic and otolaryngologic anatomy and pathology that may contribute to epiphora, patients with this symptom often present to otolaryngologists as well. Similarly, the differential of underlying etiologies for epiphora extends well beyond nasolacrimal duct obstruction, encompassing a wide array of conditions, each of which may be managed primarily by one or the other field. Judicious clinical evaluation of epiphora in each case is t
