The effects of poloxamer and sodium alginate mixture (Guardix-SG®) on range of motion after axillary lymph node dissection: A single-center, prospective, randomized, double-blind pilot study.

PURPOSE: Restricted shoulder mobility is a major upper extremity dysfunction associated with lower quality of life and disability after breast cancer surgery. We hypothesized that a poloxamer and sodium alginate mixture (Guardix-SG®) applied after axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) would significantly improve shoulder range of motion (ROM) in patients with breast cancer. METHODS: We conducted a double-blind, randomized, prospective study to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Guardix-SG® for the prevention of upper extremity dysfunction after ALND. The primary outcome measure was

Additional effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on knee extension lag, pain and knee range of motion in immediate postsurgical phase (0-2 weeks) in primary total knee arthroplasty patient.

BACKGROUND: There are various studies on younger adults which have shown that neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), at sufficient intensities, combined with active exercises had better improvement in muscle strength and functional performance than exercises alone. But very limited research is available for giving NMES in the early acute stages post total knee arthroplasty (TKA). So, the short-term effect of NMES had not yet been researched upon widely. As there were conflicting evidences in giving NMES post TKA, this study was proposed to assess the short-term effect of early NMES on kn

2D motion analysis of rabbits after Achilles tendon rupture repair and histological analysis of extracted tendons: can the number of animals be reduced by operating both hind legs simultaneously?

BACKGROUND: Considering the 3Rs principle in animal experiments, there is a demand to perform research experiments with the fewest number of animals possible while warranting the welfare of the animals. Orthopaedic experimental studies involving operations on the hind legs of rabbits are either performed on one hind leg with the second hind leg serving as control or on both hind legs simultaneously (control: rabbits with no operations at all). METHODS: The Achilles tendon of rabbits was transected and sutured, and the two-dimensional motion pattern of animals having only one leg operated was

Volume and Distribution of Early Knee Effusion After TKA with a PEEK-Based Knee Prosthesis: Correlation with Changes in Serum Inflammation Marker Levels, Knee Functional Score, and Range of Motion.

BACKGROUND: Early knee effusion is a common phenomenon after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), with potential clinical implications. Unlike traditional alloy knee prostheses, the polyetheretherketone (PEEK) knee system has radiographic transparency on magnetic resonance (MR) scans, which allows analysis of prosthetic knee effusion. We aimed to identify the distribution and volume of knee effusion after TKA with the PEEK prosthesis with use of MR imaging and to analyze whether dynamic changes in effusion were correlated with serum inflammatory marker changes and knee function recovery. METHODS: N

A comparative study evaluating the role of adductor canal block catheter versus intraarticular analgesic infusion on knee pain and range of motion in the immediate postoperative period: a prospective multicenter trial.

Postoperative pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an important determinant of hospital stay and rehabilitation and thereby functional outcome. Adductor canal block (ACB) and intraarticular analgesic infiltration through catheters (IAC) are techniques of multimodal analgesia which have shown to control postoperative pain satisfactorily. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of ACB versus IAC in reducing immediate postoperative pain and thereby allow early rehabilitation. A multicenter quasi-experimental study was conducted on 511 patients undergoing unilateral primary TKA fr

Effects of different frequencies of percussion massage therapy on pain, range of motion, functionality, joint position sense, and quality of life in individuals with rotator cuff tears: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff tears often cause persistent pain, limited mobility, impaired proprioception, and functional decline. While conventional physiotherapy (CT) is the standard treatment, percussion massage therapy (PMT) has emerged as a vibration-based modality that may enhance neuromuscular activation and sensorimotor function. However, optimal PMT frequency parameters remain unclear. This randomized controlled trial examined the effects of two PMT frequencies (16.7 Hz and 33 Hz), combined with CT, on pain, range of motion (ROM), joint position sense (JPS), functionality, and quality of

Initial effect of high-volume mobilisation with movement on shoulder range of motion and pain in patients with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain: protocol for a randomised controlled trial (Evolution Trial).

INTRODUCTION: Mobilisation with movement (MWM) is commonly used for treating patients with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain (RCRSP). However, the evidence supporting MWM efficacy for improving shoulder range of motion (ROM) and pain in patients with RCRSP is limited. It is also unclear whether higher volume MWM leads to better clinical outcomes compared with lower volume MWM in patients with RCRSP. The primary aim of this study is to assess the effect of MWM on the angular onset of pain during shoulder abduction in patients with RCRSP. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Sixty participants with RCRSP wil
