Intermolecular Potential Energy Surfaces and Bound State Calculations of Rg-CuF (Rg = Ar, Kr, Xe): Insights into the Nature of Noble Gas-Metal Bonding.

High-precision two-dimensional intermolecular potential energy surfaces (PESs) for Rg-CuF (Rg = Ar, Kr, Xe) were constructed at the coupled-cluster singles and doubles with non-iterative triples [CCSD(T)] level by employing aug-cc-pVXZ (X = D, T, Q) basis sets, and the energies were extrapolated to the complete basis set (CBS) limit. All three complexes exhibit a consistent topological pattern: the global minimum corresponds to a collinear Rg-Cu-F configuration, and the local minimum corresponds to an anti-linear Rg-F-Cu configuration. As the atomic number of noble gas increases, the Rg-Cu equ

Nature-Based Interventions for Individuals with Psychiatric Disorders: A Mixed Methods Systematic Review with Random-Effects Meta-Analysis of Mental Health and Functional Outcomes.

Nature-based interventions (NBIs) are increasingly used in mental health services, but their effectiveness in people with psychiatric disorders, and how these individuals experience them, remains unclear. This review synthesised quantitative and qualitative evidence on NBIs in psychiatric populations. Eligible studies evaluated outdoor NBIs against controlled comparators, excluding neurodevelopmental/degenerative conditions and indoor or virtual interventions. Quantitative outcomes were synthesised using random-effects meta-analysis; qualitative data were analysed using thematic synthesis. Twe

From indoor psychotherapy and counseling to walk-and-talk: psychological and physiological responses across a fixed sequence of indoor, urban, and nature-based sessions.

BACKGROUND: Walk-and-talk psychotherapy and counseling have been proposed as meaningful alternatives or complements to conventional indoor practice, but quantitative evidence directly comparing short-term client responses across settings remains limited. This practice-based study examined whether immediate psychological and physiological responses varied across a fixed sequence of three psychotherapy/counseling sessions: indoor, urban walk-and-talk, and nature walk-and-talk. METHODS: A within-subject repeated-measures design was used. Participants completed three measured psychotherapy/counse

Factors Influencing the Selection of α-Amino Acids over β-Amino Acids in Nature: Studies Involving Protein-l-isoaspartyl Methyltransferase Substrates and Related Peptides.

To understand the differences resulting from the presence of an α- or β-amino acid in a peptide, we used two sets of amino acids corresponding to Asp/isoAsp and Ala/isoAla in two types of host peptides: one containing Gly (with no side chains) and the other containing Ala (representing amino acids with side chains), and measured their tendency to form fibrils. The peptides with a β-amino acid formed fibrils, while those with an α-amino acid did not exhibit this proclivity, as inferred from the thioflavin T (ThT) fluorescence intensity measurements. The fibrillation of the hexapeptide with isoA

A Case of Isolated Cervicomedullary Injury With Extensive Wallerian Degeneration: The Multifactorial Nature in Making Decisions to Withdraw Life Support From a Pathology Perspective.

Patients suffering from traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) constitute a unique patient population in critical care medicine due to the high rate of mortality, irrecoverable neurological damage, and dependence on advanced life support measures. In this report, we present a patient who sustained a non-survivable cervicomedullary injury due to motor vehicle collision who became dependent on maximal life support and subsequently expired from multiple complications 11 months after the initial accident. On neuropathological exam, extensive Wallerian degeneration in the spinal cord despite non-trauma

The Double-Edged Nature of Patient-to-Patient Interactions in Digital Healthcare Communities: A Qualitative Study of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes in China.

Background/Objectives: Digital healthcare communities enable patients to exchange emotional support, experiential knowledge, and social companionship but may also expose patients to distress, misinformation, conflict, and relational harm. This study identified beneficial and harmful patient-to-patient interaction practices and explored how patients interpreted these experiences in relation to future self-continuity and perceived quality of life. Methods: A two-phase sequential qualitative design was used. Phase 1 analyzed 871 valid discussion topics from a Chinese digital diabetes community. P

A rare CALR exon 9 mutation p.E379Vfs*53 in AYA generation exhibits gain-of-function nature and can induce essential thrombocythemia; a case report.

OBJECTIVES: Current therapeutic strategies for essential thrombocythemia (ET) are mainly considered to prevent thrombo-hemorrhagic events, without increasing the rate of fibrotic progression or leukemic evolution. To treat the patients appropriately, the precise diagnosis of ET is essential. Although approximately 30% of ET cases are diagnosed as CALR mutation-positive; commercially available polymerase chain reaction-based methods for CALR mutation can detect only a limited variation of CALR mutations. We report the case of a 29-year-old woman admitted to our hospital because of thrombocytosi

Profiling the persistent and episodic nature of long COVID symptoms and the impact on quality of life and functional status: a cohort observation study.

BACKGROUND: Post-viral issues following acute infection with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), referred to widely as long COVID, are associated with episodic, persistent, and disabling symptoms affecting quality of life and functional status. Evidence demonstrates a significant impairment and long disease course, but there remains limited empirical data to profile and determine the fluctuating symptom profile of long COVID. METHODS: We devised a 16-week, multicentre prospective cohort observation study to profile changes in patient-reported outcomes, and biological, physiological, psycholo

Into the wild: a mixed-methods pilot study of the mental health benefits of a nature summer camp for urban children with psychological needs.

Research suggests that nature promotes psychological and behavioral health among children. However, children living in low-income urban communities often have less access to green spaces compared to their counterparts living in high-income neighborhoods, and limited research has investigated the impact of nature on well-being and social connectedness in children experiencing marginalization. To address this gap, this mixed-methods study examined the impact of a one-week immersive nature camp on the well-being and social connectedness of 27 children aged 6-12 years referred to a community hub i

Auditory sequence learning with degraded input: children with cochlear implants ('nature effect') compared to children from low and high socio-economic backgrounds ('nurture effect').

Implicit sequence learning (SL) is crucial for language acquisition and has been studied in children with organic language deficits (e.g., specific language impairment). However, language delays are also seen in children with non-organic deficits, such as those with hearing loss or from low socioeconomic status (SES). While some children with cochlear implants (CI) develop strong language skills, variability in performance suggests that degraded auditory input (nature) may affect SL. Low SES children typically experience language delays due to environmental deprivation (nurture). The purpose o

The risk of contact between visitors and Borrelia burgdorferi-infected ticks is associated with fine-scale landscape features in a southeastern Canadian nature park.

BACKGROUND: Infectious diseases are emerging across temperate regions of the world, and, for some, links have been made between landscapes and emergence dynamics. For tick-borne diseases, public parks may be important exposure sites for people living in urbanized areas of North America and Europe. In most cases, we know more about the ecological processes that determine the hazard posed by ticks as disease vectors than we do about how human population exposure varies in urban natural parks. METHODS: In this study, infrared counters were used to monitor visitor use of a public natural park in

The cathelicidin-derived close-to-nature peptide D-11 sensitises Klebsiella pneumoniae to a range of antibiotics in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo.

The outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria constitutes a permeability barrier that prevents certain antibiotics reaching their target, thus conferring a high tolerance to a wide range of antibiotics. Combined therapies of antibiotics and outer membrane-perturbing drugs have been proposed as an alternative treatment to extend the use of antibiotics active against Gram-positive bacteria to Gram-negative bacteria. Among the outer membrane-active compounds, the outer membrane-permeabilising peptides play a prominent role. They form a group of small cationic and amphipathic molecules with the abi

Unraveling the Multifaceted Nature of CD8 T Cell Exhaustion Provides the Molecular Basis for Therapeutic T Cell Reconstitution in Chronic Hepatitis B and C.

In chronic hepatitis B and C virus infections persistently elevated antigen levels drive CD8+ T cells toward a peculiar differentiation state known as T cell exhaustion, which poses crucial constraints to antiviral immunity. Available evidence indicates that T cell exhaustion is associated with a series of metabolic and signaling deregulations and with a very peculiar epigenetic status which all together lead to reduced effector functions. A clear mechanistic network explaining how intracellular metabolic derangements, transcriptional and signaling alterations so far described are interconnect

End-of-Life Experiences (ELEs) of Spiritual Nature Are Reported Directly by Patients Receiving Palliative Care in a Highly Secular Country: A Qualitative Study.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with life-threatening diseases have reportedly end-of-life experiences that are perceived positively. Loved ones and healthcare personnel may mistakenly interpret the phenomena as confusion and patients can be reluctant to talk about it due to fear of ridicule. Studies addressing patients directly are scarce and there is a lack of studies from highly secular countries. The aim was to establish whether end-of-life experiences are present among patients, oriented in time, place and person and receiving palliative end-of-life care in one of the world's most secular countrie
