Health beliefs related to diarrhea in Haitian children: building transcultural nursing knowledge.

Regardless of where they live or under what circumstances, mothers throughout the world seem to have a compelling desire to provide the best possible health care for their children (Huston, 1979). Haitian mothers living in the Dominican Republic were no exception. The health beliefs and practices of these mothers related primarily to diarrhea among their children which demonstrated a concern and resourcefulness that is commendable. The results of this study clearly indicate the importance of transcultural nurses conducting culturally relevant research as a basis to develop sound health program

Alternative Medicine and Nutritional Therapy in Adult Inflammatory Bowel Disease in India: A Move Towards Holistic Practice.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder with increasing incidence in India (also referred to as Bharat), posing a significant public health challenge. Low-cost alternatives to prohibitively expensive long-term pharmacological treatments remain underutilised and unoptimised in treatment guidelines. Such alternatives include complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and nutritional therapies. For example, herbal medicines, such as curcumin, may be a safe and feasible adjunct therapy and should be cons

Palliative Music Therapy: Disciplinary Identity and Challenges for Clinical Integration.

Music therapy in palliative care (PC) has accumulated a growing evidence base over recent decades, yet its integration into interdisciplinary teams remains inconsistent. This article argues that the gap between evidence and practice reflects, at least in part, a deeper conceptual problem: while foundational contributions to the field have proposed definitions, frameworks, and scope-of-practice models for music therapy in PC, these efforts have not yet translated into broad institutional consolidation of its disciplinary identity. We examine how categorical labels such as "complementary," "adju

Caring for Chosen Family: A Scoping Review of Clinical Work With Chosen Family.

This scoping review provides an overview of empirical research and practice-based literature that addresses direct clinical practice with chosen families-familial relationships that are not based on biology or law. Given the prevalence of chosen family among sexual and gender minorities as well as the amount of research that underlines chosen family as an important social support, this paper aims to synthesize recommendations for clinical work with chosen families and to highlight gaps in the literature. Using the five-step Arksey and O'Malley (2005) scoping review process, four electronic dat

Utilizing Image Processing Techniques for Wound Management and Evaluation in Clinical Practice: Establishing the Feasibility of Implementing Artificial Intelligence in Routine Wound Care.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a generalizable and accurate method for automatically analyzing wound images captured in clinical practice and extracting key wound characteristics such as surface area measurement. METHODS: The authors used image processing techniques to create a robust algorithm for segmenting pressure injuries from digital images captured by nurses during clinical practice. The algorithm also measured the real-world wound surface area. They used the hue-saturation-value color space to analyze red color values and to detect and segment the wound region within the entire image. To asses

Evaluation of need for peritoneal dialysis training in Morocco.

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an effective home-based renal replacement therapy, comparable in efficacy to hemodialysis (HD). Despite its advantages, the prevalence of PD in Morocco remains below 1% of dialysis patients, primarily due to limited training and awareness. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the training needs related to PD among Moroccan nephrologists and nurses and to identify key topics relevant to the local context. An online survey was conducted between July and August 2022, collecting 125 responses-primarily from females and over 78% from nephrologists. Findings revea

Standards and Practice Guidelines for Venous Blood Collection: Consensus Recommendations from the Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine.

High-quality specimens are essential for accurate laboratory results. Preanalytical errors due to issues, such as hemolysis, microclotting, and insufficient specimen volume, account for 60%-70% of laboratory errors and frequently result from improper blood collection techniques or negligence during the collection process. Therefore, standardized blood collection guidelines and continuous education are required. In Korea, standardized venous blood collection procedures have not yet been fully established, highlighting the need for an evidence-based protocol tailored to local requirements. The v
