Endoscopic retrograde appendiceal irrigation for children with recurrent abdominal pain and appendiceal fecaliths: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) in children with appendiceal fecaliths and mesenteric lymphadenitis poses a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, often mimicking appendicitis. The role of interventional endoscopy in this setting is undefined. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed children with RAP, sonographically confirmed appendiceal fecaliths, and ileocecal lymphadenitis who underwent ultrasound-guided endoscopic retrograde appendiceal irrigation (ERAI) from 2021 to 2023. Technical success, complications, immediate symptom resolution, and follow-up outcomes were assessed. RESULT

Eagle syndrome with bilateral stylohyoid ossification: a surgical case report with anatomical correlation.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Eagle syndrome is a rare clinical condition characterized by craniofacial pain and a wide range of associated symptoms. This syndrome is characterized by the elongation of the styloid process of the temporal bone and/or the calcification of the stylohyoid muscle tendon. The stylohyoid muscle elevates and retracts the hyoid bone during swallowing and contributes to mandibular depression through its anatomical interaction with the digastric muscle. In this case, clinical evaluation and anatomical knowledge led to the diagnostic suspicion and a minimally invasive and

Seeing beyond the aesthetic problem of labia minora hypertrophy: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Labia minora hypertrophy describes the enlargement of labia minora extending from base to edge of 4 cm. What once was considered an aesthetic problem could now raise a concern as symptoms including pain, infection, and sexual dysfunction may appear and, in some cases, even require a surgical correction. CASE PRESENTATION: Mrs, 44 years old, complained of pain described as getting "pinched" on the outer side of vagina during sexual intercourse. The pain was also felt when the patient was wearing tight pants or riding a bicycle. The distance between the base and the edge of the ri

Acute abdominal pain complicated by cecal perforation caused by an unnoticed swallowed toothpick: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Acute abdominal pain is one of the most common gastrointestinal symptoms. The etiology of acute abdomen can be challenging for gastroenterologists to establish. Cecal foreign body is a rare cause of cecal perforation. CASE SUMMARY: We report a 35-year-old male from China who initially exhibited symptoms suggestive of acute appendicitis. However, during a minimally invasive colonoscopy procedure, the authors found that a wooden toothpick caused the perforation. The patient presented to our emergency department with a 2 days history of right lower abdominal pain and low grade fever.

ACR Appropriateness Criteria® Horner Syndrome.

Horner syndrome is a combination of signs and symptoms caused by abnormalities in the oculosympathetic pathway. Typically, patients present with ipsilateral miosis, ptosis, and anhidrosis. Imaging the oculosympathetic pathway is complex because of its extensive course, need for targeted protocols, and the wide range of pathology that can cause it. For this document, we focus our attention on workup guidelines based on clinical features: 1) acuity (acute, nonacute including chronic, insidious, and unknown onset), 2) painless or painful (neck pain, occipital region pain, or headaches), 3) whethe

Temporomandibular Joint Minimally Invasive Procedures in the Pediatric Population: A Prospective Study.

Over recent years, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) minimally invasive procedures, such as arthrocentesis and arthroscopy, have been appointed as an initial TMJ intra-articular treatment. Both procedures present safe and effective clinical results in managing temporomandibular disorders (TMD) by reducing pain and improving mouth opening. The use of these techniques in adults is validated in the literature. However, data on the safety and effectiveness of minimally invasive TMJ interventions in pediatric patients are scarce. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of TMJ arthrocentesis an

Surgical management of abdominal wall sheath and rectus abdominis muscle endometriosis: a case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Endometriosis, defined as the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity, mainly affects the pelvic viscera and peritoneum. Endometriosis can also occur at sites of surgical incisions on the abdominal wall, mainly in women with a history of cesarean section (CS). The incidence of abdominal wall endometriosis after CS reaches 1%. Clinical suspicion, along with imaging, plays a crucial role in diagnosis. The preferred treatment involves extensive surgical excision with clear margins, ensuring a definitive diagnosis through histopathology examination. CASE

PENG block associated with dexmedetomidine sedation for intramedullary femoral fixation in high-risk elderly patients: a case series and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Hip fracture is a major cause of hospitalization among the elderly population. The standard surgical treatment involves early repair to reduce mortality and morbidity. One type of treatment in the case of intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures is intramedullary nailing, as it decreases soft tissue damage and permits early weight bearing. The most common anesthesia technique combines spinal anesthesia with a peripheral block. In cases where spinal anesthesia is contraindicated, general anesthesia is preferred. However, both techniques can lead to significant complications,

Genicular Artery Embolisation in Patients with Osteoarthritis of the Knee (GENESIS 2): Protocol for a Double-Blind Randomised Sham-Controlled Trial.

Knee osteoarthritis is a leading cause of chronic disability and economic burden. In many patients who are not surgical candidates, existing treatment options are insufficient. Clinical evidence for a new treatment approach, genicular artery embolisation (GAE), is currently limited to single arm cohort, or small population randomised studies. This trial will investigate the use of a permanent embolic agent for embolisation of abnormal genicular arterial vasculature to reduce pain in patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. Up to 110 participants, 45 years or older, with knee pain fo
