Randomized controlled trial of individualized arousal-biofeedback for children and adolescents with disruptive behavior disorders (DBD).

Disruptive behavior disorders [including conduct disorder (CD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD)] are common childhood and adolescent psychiatric conditions often linked to altered arousal. The recommended first-line treatment is multi-modal therapy and includes psychosocial and behavioral interventions. Their modest effect sizes along with clinically and biologically heterogeneous phenotypes emphasize the need for innovative personalized treatment targeting impaired functions such as arousal dysregulation. A total of 37 children aged 8-14 years diagnosed with ODD/CD were randomized to 2

Outcomes and Management After COVID-19 Critical Illness.

TOPIC IMPORTANCE: COVID-19 has caused > 7 million deaths worldwide since its onset in 2019. Although the severity of illness has varied throughout the pandemic, critical illness related to COVID-19 persists. Survivors of COVID-19 critical illness can be left with sequelae of both the SARS-CoV-2 virus and long-term effects of critical illness included within post-intensive care syndrome. Given the complexity and heterogeneity of COVID-19 critical illness, the biopsychosocial-ecological model can aid in evaluation and treatment of survivors, integrating interactions among physical, cognitive, an

Evaluation of mental disorder with prioritization of its type by utilizing the bipolar complex fuzzy decision-making approach based on Schweizer-Sklar prioritized aggregation operators.

A clinically important loss in a person's understanding, emotive power, or conduct is a symptom of a mental disorder. It generally occurs for genetic, psychological, and/or cognitive reasons and is accompanied by discomfort or limitationin significant functional areas. It can be handled using techniques similar to those used to treat chronic conditions (i.e., precautions, examination, medication, and recovery). Mental diseases take a variety of forms. Mental disorder is also identified as mental illness. The latter is a more usual phrase that incorporates psychological problems, psychosocial d

The Protective Role of L-carnitine on Psychosocial Stress-induced Changes in Gene Expression and Protein Levels of Matrix Metalloproteinases, Serum Corticosterone in a Rat Model.

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial stress (STS) is a common stress in modern societies. Chronic STS is associated with the impairment of a broad range of cognitive functions in humans and with prolonged abnormalities in memory. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a protein family of zinccontaining endopeptidases, are essential in neuro-inflammation and involved in neurodegenerative diseases. L-Car possessed neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties and was shown to modulate MMPs. OBJECTIVE: The current study aimed to examine the protective effect of L-Carnitine (L-CAR) on STSinduced

A model for personalized diagnostics for non-specific low back pain: the role of the myofascial unit.

Low back pain (LBP) is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Most LBP is non-specific or idiopathic, which is defined as symptoms of unknown origin without a clear specific cause or pathology. Current guidelines for clinical evaluation are based on ruling out underlying serious medical conditions, but not on addressing underlying potential contributors to pain. Although efforts have been made to identify subgroups within this population based on response to treatment, a comprehensive framework to guide assessment is still lacking. In this paper, we propose a model for a personalized mecha

Health Care Transition From Pediatric- to Adult-Focused Care in X-linked Hypophosphatemia: Expert Consensus.

CONTEXT: X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is an inherited skeletal disorder that can lead to lifelong deleterious musculoskeletal and functional consequences. Although often perceived as a childhood condition, children and adults both experience the negative effects of XLH. Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) benefit from effective health care transition (HCT) preparation to support the transfer from pediatric- to adult-focused care. Whereas transition timelines, milestones, and educational tools exist for some chronic conditions, they do not meet the unique needs of patients with XLH. EVIDENC
