AI-enabled passive digital phenotyping of experiential negative symptoms in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders: a narrative review on the path from sensing to clinical endpoints.

Negative symptoms, particularly avolition and asociality, rank among the most disabling and treatment-resistant features of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders. Clinician-rated scales such as the Clinical Assessment Interview for Negative Symptoms and the Brief Negative Symptom Scale have strengthened construct definition. However, they depend on infrequent interviews and retrospective recall, missing the moment-to-moment behavioral patterns that define these symptoms in everyday life. Passive digital phenotyping, through smartphones and wearable sensors, can continuously capture mobility, physic

National survey on aspiration pneumonia in elderly hospitalized or institutionalized patients in France in 2023.

BACKGROUND: Aspiration pneumonia is not specifically addressed in French guidelines on pneumonia, despite it being a frequent infection affecting specific populations. The French Infectious Diseases Society's (French acronym SPILF) Recommendations Group and the Infectio-Geriatrics Group (GinGER-SPILF SFGG) have published the first recommendations on this topic in 2025. The objective of this study was to describe practices of French physicians to manage aspiration pneumonia in hospitalized or institutionalized people aged over 75 years. METHODS: A nationwide survey conducted from June to Novem

Ectodermal dysplasia: a narrative review of the clinical and biological aspects relevant to oral health.

Ectodermal dysplasias (ED) are disorders that affect ectodermal-derived tissues during embryonic development. These disorders occur when the ectoderm, the outermost layer of embryonic tissue does not develop normally. Patients present abnormalities of two or more ectoderm-derived structures and the clinical presentation can vary greatly depending on the type a patient has. The authors compiled and provided their perspective on articles describing the classification, molecular signaling pathways, systemic and dental implications, genetic diagnosis and dental treatment considerations for patient

Novel variants underlying autosomal recessive neurodevelopmental disorders with intellectual disability in Iranian consanguineous families.

BACKGROUND: Intellectual disability (ID) is a heterogeneous group of neurodevelopmental disorders that is characterized by significant impairment in intellectual and adaptive functioning with onset during the developmental period. Whole-exome sequencing (WES)-based studies in the consanguineous families with individuals affected with ID have shown a high burden of relevant variants. So far, over 700 genes have been reported in syndromic and non-syndromic ID. However, genetic causes in more than 50% of ID patients still remain unclear. METHODS: Whole-exome sequencing was applied for investigat

Can zirconia crowns be the first restorative choice after endodontic treatment of primary teeth?

OBJECTIVE: Early loss of primary teeth due to caries can cause temporary or permanent problems, such as occlusion disorders, aesthetic problems, nutritional problems, abnormal habits, and speech disorders. Although the development of restorative materials has led to significant improvements, failures are still frequent. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the success rates of zirconia crowns compared to other crowns for the restoration of endodontically treated teeth with excessive loss of material. METHODS: A total of 45 teeth of patients aged under 10 years, including primary molars a

Reconstruction of maxillectomy and midfacial defects using latissimus dorsi-scapular free flaps in a comprehensive cancer center.

BACKGROUND: The standard of care for sinonasal malignancies is a large surgical resection followed by radiotherapy. Midfacial defects resulting from maxillectomy require a complex reconstruction procedure. Given their adaptability, chimeric flaps such as latissimus dorsi-scapular (LDS) free flaps appear to be a good option. MATERIAL & METHODS: We performed a single-center retrospective study of consecutive patients with sinonasal cancers where a LDS free flap was used for reconstruction. We assessed the postoperative complications and the functional, aesthetic and oncologic outcomes. RESULTS

[Ataxia telangiectasia. A prototype of neurological involvement in primary immune deficiencies].

The number of primary immune deficiencies exceeds 350, approximately a quarter of them having neurological implications. Severe central nervous system infections may occur in an even higher proportion. Beyond listing in a table of all diseases with a neurological impact, the author gives detailed analysis of one typical disorder. Ataxia telangiectasia is caused by biallelic mutation of the ATM gene resulting in genomic instability, increased cancer risk, immune deficiency and a predominantly cerebellar neurodegeneration. The most common classic form is characterized by gait and limb ataxia, oc

Temporally Regular Musical Primes Facilitate Subsequent Syntax Processing in Children with Specific Language Impairment.

Children with developmental language disorders have been shown to be also impaired in rhythm and meter perception. Temporal processing and its link to language processing can be understood within the dynamic attending theory. An external stimulus can stimulate internal oscillators, which orient attention over time and drive speech signal segmentation to provide benefits for syntax processing, which is impaired in various patient populations. For children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) and dyslexia, previous research has shown the influence of an external rhythmic stimulation on subseq
