Trichorhinophalangeal syndrome I (TPRSI) has an autosomal dominant inheritance; the proportion of «de novo» cases is unknown1. It is characterized by unique facial features, bulbous nose, flat and elongated nasolabial furrow, thin hair and slow growth. Skeletal abnormalities that include short phalanges and metacarpals -brachydactyly-, cone-shaped epiphyses, hip dysplasia and short stature1-3.

Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) commonly occurs in young, tall, and thin males, without any identifiable cause except for emphysema-like changes (ELCs). However, other risk factors may be overlooked. Herein, we report the case of a 19-year-old male who presented with recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax while taking oral methylphenidate.

The optimal conditions for isolation of naphazoline from naphthyzin preparations and biological fluids with chloroform at pH 9.18 are described. The compound of interest was identified with the use of color and precipitation reactions, IR and UV spectroscopy, thin-layer and gas chromatography, and chemical methods including high performance liquid chromatography, chromatodensitometry, and UV spectroscopy. The results obtained by the three methods are comparable.

Pulmonary pneumatoceles are thin-walled, air-filled cysts that develop within the lung parenchyma. Most often, they occur as a sequel of acute pneumonia, commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus in children. Limited data are available about infective pulmonary cysts in newborns. We report a case of a newborn, who developed multiple pneumatoceles after Escherichia coli pneumonia.

Intestinal obstruction is a fairly common surgical emergency that usually occurs due to herniae, adhesions, or bands. Rarely, uncommon causes such as an abdominal cocoon are encountered, where part or all of the small intestine is encased within a thin membrane. We report one such case of abdominal cocoon, in whom, further encasement of the distal ileum was seen within a separate membrane.

Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease that may involve multiple organ systems. The prognosis of sarcoidosis is influenced by the presence and severity of cardiac lesions. Thinning of the wall in the ventricular septum has often been reported, whereas an interventricular septal mass is rare. We describe a case of cardiac sarcoidosis resulting in a myocardial mass in the basal portion of the interventricular septum that was sensitive to corticosteroid treatment.

This case demonstrates the use of cardiac CT angiography as part of the preoperative evaluation of a recurrent subaortic membrane in a 23-year-old women. A subaortic membrane is a rare finding on coronary CT angiography and typically consists of a thin fibrous membrane in the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT). The resulting turbulent flow may lead to LVOT obstruction and aortic insufficiency.

Lymphangioma is a benign tumor composed of numerous small or large thin-walled lymphatic spaces. It shows a predilection for head, neck, and axilla. Jejunal lymphangioma in children is extremely rare. We present a case of 13-year-old girl with jejuno-jejunal intussusception secondary to lymphangioma in jejunum. To our knowledge, this is the second report of jejunal lymphangioma causing intussusception in a child.

Pneumosinus dilatans (PSD) is a rare condition of unknown aetiology in which there is enlargement of the paranasal sinuses by air, where the affected sinus expands beyond the normal boundaries of bone without thinning of its bony walls. The case of a 28 year old male with PSD, who had gradually increasing exophthalmus and diplopia, is presented and characteristics of this condition are reviewed with literature data.

A woman with progressive bilateral Mooren's ulcer developed recurrent corneal perforations and melting requiring tectonic grafts, despite conventional immunosuppressant therapy. Following treatment with infliximab, an anti-tumour necrosis factor agent, the patient showed marked reduction in conjunctival inflammation and no further recurrence of corneal thinning and perforation during 2-year follow up on maintaining treatment.

We treated a chronic alcoholic patient who showed all the symptoms of scurvy (petechiae, greyish skin colour, areas of thinning hair on the head, gingivitis, elevated liver enzyme levels, hyponatraemia, hypalbuminaemia and hypothyroidism) at admission. Even today, alcoholics and chronically ill people in particular can develop symptoms of diet-related vitamin C deficiency.

Tympanopuncture was made with a needle having a step gradation to its thin end. Such a needle abates traumaticity of this manipulation and extends its applicability. The above modification was called by the author microtympanopuncture. The review of 7000 cases of microtympanopuncture is given. Indications for this procedure and its possible complications are outlined. Microtympanopuncture can be made in outpatient setting and therefore must find wider application.

Endosonography is now an effective tool for the assessment of anorectal pathologies. We present a case of rectal prolapse in a patient with progressive systemic sclerosis, with low resting anal pressure, no rectoanal inhibitory reflex in manometry, and a thin, heterogeneous, difficult to delineate, internal sphincter on endoanal ultrasound. We also provide a review of the literature on anorectal involvement in progressive systemic sclerosis.

The extensor mechanism of the hand consists of different tendons, originating from extrinsic and intrinsic muscles of the hand and forearm. Because of their course near to skin and bone separated only by a thin layer of paratenon, they are very sensitive to injuries and adhesions. Treatment protocols have to be adapted according to the different zones. This paper explains the basic principles of rehabilitation in extensor tendon injuries.

This is a case report of unusual case of choroid plexus cyst at the right foramen of Monro in the anterior third ventricle that caused unilateral obstructive hydrocephalus. The value of small-FOV thin-section MR imaging in the diagnosis of small lesions of the foramen of Monroe is demonstrated. The immunohistochemical findings in choroid epithelial cysts in comparison with those of other types of cysts at this location are discussed.

Autoamputation is an uncommon phenomenon that has been reported for the fingers, toes, appendix, ovary, spleen, etc. Autoamputation of the tongue has never been reported. An elderly man with carcinoma of lateral pharyngeal wall and tonsil presented with an autoamputated tongue that was attached to the oral cavity with a thin band. The patient required detachment of the tongue and tracheostomy followed by radiotherapy for the primary tumour.

The pleural space is a potential space under normal physiologic circumstances. It envelops the lung, the mediastinum, the diaphragm and the chest wall. A thin film of pleural fluid provides lubrication for the two pleural layers; only 2-10 ml of pleural fluid is present in healthy people. For the purposes of this review, pleural abnormalities will be divided into pleural effusion, pneumothorax, and pleural calcification.

Reconstruction of thin eyelid skin and thick, sebaceous nasal skin requires different methods. The unique characteristics of the scalp make it one of the greatest repair challenges in the head and neck region, sometimes requiring multiple different reconstructive techniques for the same defect.

We present a case of misdiagnosed and inadequately treated necrotizing scleritis leading to ocular complications. Scleral thinning and a marked secondary corneal astigmatism were observed and measured by ultrasound biomicroscopy and corneal topography. The purpose of this case report is to demonstrate the clinical value of additional diagnostic tools, such as ultrasound biomicroscopy and corneal topography and to alert ophthalmologists as to the complications of necrotizing scleritis.
