In 30 patients suffering from Dupuytren' disease the following cellular and humoral tests were carried out: 1. Migration inhibitory test using the palmaraponeurosis as an antigen. - 2. Determination of the serum level of IgG, IgA and IgM. - 3. Determination of humoral antibodies against mitochondria, cellnuclei and smooth muscles. - An inhibition of migration could be observed in 24 out of 30 patients (80%) (MI 0.85). 6 patients had a migration index above 0.85. Antibodies reactive with the Epstein-Barr (EBV)-encoded latent membrane protein, LMP, were detected in human sera. Membrane fractions of the EBV-carrying Raji cells and a fusion protein (LMFP), that represents the carboxy part of LMP, were used as antigens. A human leucocyte migration inhibition test (HLMT) was performed in 50 healthy subjects and in 23 patients with bacteriologically confirmed listeriosis, using Listeria monocytogenes as antigen. Considerable inhibition was found in most patients, whereas the test was negative in all controls. In view of this consistent relationship between test and disease, it is suggested that the HLMT could be used for the indirect diagnosis of listeriosis, taking into account the delay between the onset of infection and the positivity of the test.

The morphology of vitreous membranes from enucleated human eyes containing vitreous haemorrhage was studied by electron microscopy. Three types of membrane are described, based on their cellular composition: haematogenous, fibroblastic and neovascular. Simple vitreous haemorrhages usually failed to stimulate a fibroblastic cellular response, whereas vitreous blood clots in eyes with penetrating injuries were frequently invaded by choroidal and/or scleral fibroblasts.
