Radioimmunoassay has shown a cross-reaction of the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) with high levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) in the serum of four women who underwent bilateral oophorectomy as part of their treatment for trophoblastic disease. Administration of oral contraceptives led to suppression of the LH and beta subunit HCG titers.

Gonadotropin therapy for anovulation is highly successful: 58.6% of treated patients conceive. Better results are achieved in patients with galactorrhea-amenorrhea (77.1%) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (63.3%) than in patients with normal gonadotropin levels (45.4%). RATIONALE: Gliomatosis peritonei (GP) refers to the implantation of glial tissue on the visceral and parietal peritoneal surface, often associated with immature teratoma. It is a rare condition and the pathogenesis is not fully understood. In addition, the indistinguishable radiological appearance of immature and mature teratomas, and limited pathology samples make an accurate diagnosis difficult in most cases. More importantly, patients are also at risk of recurrence after surgery. This report aims to describe the process of diagnosis and treatment of GP with immature teratoma.

An unusual tumor in the descending colon with human chorionic gonadotropin-beta (HCG-beta) production and histological features of a "glassy cell" carcinoma is presented. Glassy cell carcinoma has been described in the uterus and fallopian tubes as well as the cervix, but in these locations the tumor is not HCG-beta producing. Glassy cell carcinomas have been described in some cases as having glandular and squamous differentiation as well as marked cellular pleomorphism. The tumors are generally associated with a poor prognosis.
